It has been announced that silence periods will not be held in relation to the passing of Lady T. As much as it pains me to say as much, being a (young-ish) supporter of hers, this is probably a good decision - if only because of the number of people who would ruin such a thing :(

The only sensible decision. Can you imagine the reaction in places like Liverpool and Glasgow and many more towns and cities across the country?

This is something that always puzzles me about football. Why is it so full of "detest", "hate", "scum"? What is wrong with simply supporting your team? [IIRC, the Luton/Milwall "riot" was a particularly vicious one, but one of many that had brought the reputation of football about as low as it could possibly get. ID cards were one attempt to start addressing this, but, like so many ideas around football, were dismissed as "unworkable" in some bizarre way. Football was refusing to admit there was a problem, which is why a government-sponsored solution was looked for.]

As a comparison I have a season ticket for a rugby league team as well and quite often fans will mingle among each other happily before, during and after the match.

The main problem is that a lot of these ideas such as photo ID Cards (which I believe LUFC are bringing in next season) checking of police records to travel away etc etc make some football fans feel persucuted. We already have pretty robust systems in place for away travellers and it doesn't really bother me but I know a lot of fans that get upset when they are forced to show photo ID, membership cards as well as match tickets to get into away games. The FSF soon find out about things like this and clubs relax their rules and checks again. It's just one big circle and unless all clubs can agree on it, or are actually told to do something by the FA or the Football League than very little gets done.

That is very harsh compared to the punishment in England.

15 points for a 36-game season, as opposed to a 10-point deduction for a 46-game season. (Almost double the penalty if my calculation is right.)

Correct.

15/108 = 13.89% (108 = 36 x 3)
10/138 = 7.25% (138 = 46 x 3)

Still a light punishment when you consider what happened to Gretna and Livinston after they went into administration. Both demoted 2 divisions!

Scotland take penalties far more seriously. It's as simple as that.

I'm not trying to be spiteful or anything else here, especially to EM2, but I would like to know what sanction they would have given West Ham in 2007 after the whole Tevez/Mascherano thing!

Indeed, in England, you have go down to Conference level before you start getting serious with penalties, especially for ineligible players.

Pretty much like the overwhelming majority of Premier League games then as regards the before and after.

Neither Gretna or livingston were demoted divisions because of entering administration.

After Mileson's illness Gretna were never likely to recover. They were docked the now standard 10 points by the SPL, who also payed the rest of the Gretna players wages that season. They were put down to the 3rd Division by the SFL because it was deemed unlikely they would be able to complete their fixtures for the 2008/09 season. As it happens, no buyer was found and they were liquidated before the 08/09 season begun and were replaced by Annan Athletic.

Livingston entered administration for the second time towards the end of the 08/09 season and were relegated to the 3rd Division due to breaking insolvency laws when coming out of administration.

Dundee were docked 25 points by the SFL for going into administration a second time.

Unlike the SPL, the SFL does not have a standard punishment for entering administration, prefering to look at each case on its own merits.

Contrary to previous statements, some in football - including Dave Whelan and John Madejski - are calling for Lady T to have a moment of silence dedicated to her before the next round of games.

BBC Article

Meanwhile, in news that matters to me and basically no-one else in this thread, Phil Neville has announced he will be leaving Everton at the end of this season :( He's been with us for eight years and has done a tremendous job.

BBC Article

And lastly, Portsmouth's High Court battle has been set for tomorrow. will it finally happen this time...?

BBC Article

I've linked stories like this instead of quoting because otherwise this post will look hideously messy and because none of the stories above are especially important - it's not exactly a sacking is it? (Well, OK, the last is important, but the date aside there's nothing new.)

There is a football god!

I trust his name isn't Paul McGrath?

Sadly some supporters are too disrespectful, and I fear such a moment would be a terrible sick embarrassment.

I don't think it would be a good idea for a minutes silence in memory of Mrs T,as it is likely to be widely abused and hence debased.

Whether that is right or wrong is open to question

WE GOT A PENALTY AT HOME

Oh and you should have been down to 10 men within the first 20 minutes. One of the strikers punched our keeper straight in the goolies. Preston's Jack King has spoke out about the game on twitter - @jackking4 if you're interested.

Considering their seasons results in the Conference North with hardly any league points to show for nearly a full seasons football, their league result last night was nothing short of amazing...

Hinckley United 6...Corby Town 3.

Are you absolutely certain that you've got the teams the right way around there? If you have, then I think Corby will be the laughing stock of the league :D

This probably shouldn't happen because it would be a bit stupid.

However, it should happen because extreme mawkishness is now the default position in football and hence we should have a moment's silence (or worse, the truly toe-curling moment's applause) for absolutely bloody everything.

I am totally correct. This 6-3 league win by Hinckley United was their first win of the season (they had only managed three draws up to them to gain any points) means that they have doubled their points to SIX!!

You are correct that both the management and the players at Corby Town will be very embarrassed indeed at the present time, in the same way that clubs who are defeated by Fort William also suffer..:D

When did Hinckley become so useless anyway...?
Last season they were pushing for play-offs. This year they seem to have collapsed. Badly

And to Paul, I thought they'd picked up 9 points so far (2 wins, 3 draws)but had 3 points deducted.
