Could anyone confirm if FGW still do MT 4.1 as part of the assessment centre? I think I dimly recall someone saying it was no longer done, even though it is part of the information pack.

Regardless, brushing up on my physics/math can't be a bad thing, so I'm hitting the books.

Thanks! And good luck to you, too - I assume you haven't heard anything back from Reading yet? (I am not stalking you, honest. I'm just trawling through this thread again and just read you'd switched from Bristol to Reading.)

I am awaiting a date for my DM interview in Gloucester..
Don't know if I have to wait until assessments have taken place first before I will get date.

Ah, I see. Well done on getting so far! Perhaps the wait is an extension of testing your patience and tenacity. ;)

I think I'm pretty far down the list of potentials as I've seen quite a few people say that they've passed assessments and are on hold. My own test of patience and tenacity, perhaps.

They said there is a few of us with full assessment passes and some that have passed first stage.
Need to be in it to win it mate, you have as good a shout as anyone in process.
Did you do the new process on dedicated website?

You are absolutely right.

Yes, I applied for Bristol on the First Careers site and then about a week after that vacancy closed, I got the email saying that the role had been filled but please apply for either Westbury or Gloucester. Turns out a bit better for me than I imagined, since I live within cycling distance of Westbury.

The new process on the dedicated website was great. Very intuitive, not as many competency questions that require detailed responses but enough to prove you can communicate through text, and the online tests were quick with near instant pass/fail emails sent. I actually sort of enjoyed it, in an odd way. I imagine that so long as the internet doesn't fall over midway through a test, it will be a good way to sift through applicants that, with no disrespect intended, aren't worth sending to an assessment centre.

Superb

Have you been given date for assessment in Bristol?

Yes. I'll be there on the Wednesday. Haven't seen many other people say they will be at the assessments. Must be quite a few lurkers out there who've been offered an assessment date - good luck, you lurkers!

Just signed up on the basis of your persuasive pitch SkinnyDave! I actually have a question with regards to multiple applications:

I received an email from First Group today telling me I'd been successful in the phone interview, and to book an assessment day. I already have a first stage assessment day scheduled with Greater Anglia earlier on in September as well.

My question is: If I pass the GA first stage, but fail with Great Western at a later date, do I then have to withdraw my GA application due to the rules about only being able to fail once in a six month period?

Cheers!

Good question to start off with and welcome..

If you pass it's a pass and you can sit it as many times as you want (in theory) if you fail it then you have to wait six months and that's one of your strikes gone.
In summary your situation you quoted you will be fine with GA but if you don't get further and dont get offered job you will most likely need to wait six months.

It is all changing though

Is anybody else still waiting for their results from the 1st stage assessment at reading on 30th may? I called FGW last week and was told the last batch of results had just landed on his desk and I would know within 2 days. Still not heard anything.

Charlie,

I was at the penta on the 30th and had my 2nd stage assessment today :| Think I did OK, time will tell I suppose. The assessor lady was telling us that they have had such a delay with our "intake" due to having to send the papers away to be marked externally.

Keep the faith!

Hi People,

Just a shout out to anyone who is currently in the know at FGW if they plan to re advertise the trainee driver role again this year. I understand that they require approximately 700 new drivers according to a post on this forum. I unfortunately failed the managers interview earlier this year and would hope I have not burnt my bridges with this TOC.

If anyone can can help it would be much appreciated. Good luck to anyone still in the process

Many Thanks

charlie873,

I was at the Penta on the 30th and only heard I'd been successful two weeks ago. I don't think it's a case of best first, last worst.

I'm still waiting on a date for stage 2, so don't give up hope yet! Maybe they're letting everybody know (including you) before confirming dates, so it could still be good news for you.

Best of luck.

Hi guys, was anyone at Reading (stage 1) on 23rd August? Just heard back yesterday that I was successful but no sign of a date for stage 2 yet. Anyone in the same boat? From some of the posts I'm guessing I have a long wait.

Was surprised they only took 2 weeks for an update though as I was under the impression it can take months. Maybe FGW have hired some more HR bods to help lighten the load?!

Hi
Could you give any input as to what stage 1 was like... Format of tests and the session in general?

At the end of my telephone interview, I was told that I should hear back within the next few days or weeks (??)... but in actual fact, I received my invite to attend the assessment centre about an hour later!

I read your reply, checked my emails and had an invite to the assessment. The 12th at 12 for me too :D
