Looks like im in demand for 459 (458/5) work (not many trained at my depot) as I am on them on Monday and Tuesday.458 tomorrow unless they are short of 458's.:p

There I was predicting to another driver I'd be on 159's for months on end due to driver shortages.I haven't been on one since 13 July.

458/5 pair on the 1542 Shepperton to Waterloo via Richmond :o probably for the Hampton Station 150th anniversary, as it did a few trips. Via Richmond due to engineering works at Kingston.

Ah, so that's what I saw. Must be the first time they've been used in service at weekends.

Maniacmartin and I were on 458531 and 533 both to and from Hampton Transport gala today, which had two guards. There was quite a bit of photographic interest both internally and externally from various photters along the route, particularly at Clapham Jcn where a railtour was pulled up alongside. Any forum members involved?

It passed me between Putney and Wandsworth Town while going to Twickenham (no services to Hounslow due to eng works). I did see a brief mention of it on my Facebook feed around lunchtime (when I was going to Dartford Bus Garage open day :D).
The railtour, with 73109+73207 leading a long rake of Mk1 First coaches, passed me not long after I got off at Twickenham :P.

Generally there are two guards (or more) as they are training them.AFAIK.It passed me at Queenstown road...I was on a troublesome pair of 458's which had a late start from Reading.

The one that's arrived this morning has a very different end section of the end coach. Big blue first class style seats although it is declassified.

The previous 458/5's had red seats only slightly larger.

This one also has a very broken PA system in coach A.

It must be an ex 458/0 conversion, and they've left the first class seats they already had?

Which diagram is that on today with the blue seats, and which end of the formation is it? Must be a 458/0 conversion

No idea. It was 02 on the end of the number, coach A. The Windsor & Eton service.

Right, so that '02' does mean it is 458502, which is definitely an ex 458/0, and to the best of my knowledge is the first ex 458 conversion to enter passenger service.

For info the first 5 conversions to arrive were all conversions from 460 units, and as they augment the original 30 in the fleet, they are numbered 458531-536.

Just two more quick points,
What time was it at Feltham, was it 0746, and was Coach A at the front of the train?

It also suggests 6 units are now clear for passenger use altogether, as 458532 was in use last week?

I caught a glimpse of this as it stopped at Hampton, was most surprised when it was a pair of them.

Does anyone know what happened at Strawberry Hill, particularly London bound, as the platform extensions aren't complete there yet, presumably SDO was in operation, but did it stop beyond the signal, or was the rear of the train blocking the level crossing?

Unlikely that stopping beyond signal would be allowed. At Chertsey, Feltham, and probably Datchet, the level crossing gets blocked.

Stopping beyond the signal would cause the ASDO to function incorrectly as the beacon to tell the train which coaches to open is at the start of the platform. Ie any coach that passes over a beacon will open. Just means that the rear two coaches would be over crossing and doors remaining inactive.

That's a shame, I only travel in the front unit (its what I do), so I'll have to try and get 502 later in the week, anyone know which unit it is running with?

So has a third 10-car diagram been introduced yet, or are they keeping two units as reliability spares?

I'm keen to go on 8502 to see what they've done with the interior. I wouldn't be surprised if the seat covers and the "get dirty quick" flooring haven't been changed as these were renewed quite recently.

I was told that there would be five 5 cars in service from this week, eg two ten cars and a five car.

Looks like 8502 is out, as it has the shabby interior, with blue seats, dirty floor and scruffy cabs! This one has certainly been rushed IMO.

I fear that the other 29 will be the same! <(

And 8002 was one of the least scruffy ones.

Yes I saw that on Sunday, they were also running a 450 eight car train, which I traveled on, as well as the usual 455s then.

By the way do some of the new 458s have different windows, until today they have seemed to be blackish looking and oblong along the edges, but this morning I saw one 458 and the windows seems to be blue and have curved corners.
