Hi everyone!

Was wondering if anybody would be able to give me some more information about this position and New Cross depot as a whole? More specifically what routes and traction are signed? What are London Overground like to work for as a whole and if anybody knows if they would consider applications from people who are willing to relocate?

As ever, any help and advice offered is appreciated :)

Just Class 378s, and the whole of the East London Line. 4 day week, Sundays included.

Realistically if you don't live within 45 minutes of the depot, I wouldn't bother applying, as they will get more than enough applicants who do.

Highbury & Islington to New Cross, Crystal Palace, West Croydon, Clapham Junction and Battersea Park. Just Class 378s. LOROL as a whole are pretty good to work for. NXG depot is still quite young, and drivers are friendly. There's just over 200 at NXG. Annual leave is on a block system, 1 week Early Spring, 1 week Late spring, 2 weeks summer, 1 week winter then rest floating. Of course if you're block leave is on a rostered rest day, you get the annual leave day back. (Changing to 4 block weeks soon).

This year LOROL put on Summer Fun Days, raffle for tickets to go to London Eye, Chessington, London Zoo Lates, Kew Gardens etc. They do a great Christmas Party each year too. Benefits wise we get Staff Oyster plus a nominee. NR PRIV too, plus as LOROL is part of Arriva we get free travel on Chiltern, ATW, CrossCountry, Grand Central, T&W Metro.

There's quite a few drivers who live far away and commute, but I think they would probably start to be picky about that now.

I think they have just put 1 vacancy because the exact number needed is still to be decided, but it will certainly be much more than 1.

Many thanks for the great advice! I currently work for XC in Birmingham but I'm itching to get down the front. Am willing to relocate so may just put an application in and see how far I get. :)

Hi,

If I was to get this role, and work for LO for a few years, would there be a possibility of moving to another railway service, such as Great Western?

Basically, would the skills I gain from this career allow me to drive cross country trains in the future? Or would I have to re-apply for trainee jobs within their company?

Thanks,

Wes

what do you make of this

As per the Railways Standards, if you have failed twice at any stage of the recruitment process for this position, with any rail company, you are not allowed to sit the assessments again.

not very clear as the managers interview doesn't count
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
LOROL is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome all applications especially from women and black, Asian and minority ethnic groups who are currently under represented.

LO are trained to network rail rules etc so you would apply for a qualified role.

Would you like us to sit beside you and answer all the questions during the training as well!
If you cant get these questions right on your own you wont get through the training or you would hold everyone else up on the training course.

It is a tricky job... perhaps you're not suited to it if you're struggling that much. Sorry for the harsh truth!

Abu,

There isnt anybody here that will just give you the answers. Its dishonest and unneccessary. If you are suitable for the role than you would have a good idea of the answers.

The only thing i can say to help you is: when answering the questions, bear in mind the following:

Think safety- what is the safest action
Follow rules and proceedures- do what you are supposed to do.
Show competence- try to solve the problem by your own actions and try not to bother colleagues/managers unneccessarily
Take responsibility and dont 'pass the buck'

The above points should guide you to the correct answers to all 12 questions.

Im starting as a trainee on 5th of jan 2015 for the chingford role, and i must warn you my friend that if you find these 12 questions tricky............ well frankly the assessments and interviews will be a nightmare for you.

Good luck!

Perhaps?!

"So what preparation and research did you do for the role?"

"Er well i went on an internet forum and asked for the answers in numerical order coz i couldnt be bothered to work them out myself..."

Just tick any old answer. They probably dont care anyway...

It's a bit like people who want the answers to theory tests for their car test maybe ?

Ok, a quick question here unrelated to Abu and God....

I'm going to apply for this position on Monday when I have some spare time but was wondering what the likelihood is of a non British citizen getting through.

Basically I'm a kiwi and have a spouse visa in the UK. I've lived in Greenwich for 3 years and am looking for a serious career change. I'm currently highly qualified in the advertising and design industry in the UK, but am looking something new and exciting.

My family has been involved in the railways for 4 generations in South Africa and I thought I stop messing about and follow in their footsteps...

Cheers for any help!

You would have probably been better off starting a new thread as this one has been trolled by abu!

Anyway in response to your question, you have the same likelihood as anyone else! We have drivers who are Australians, South Africans, Hungarians...etc etc. It's irrelevant where you're from as long as you have the aptitude (and can be bothered to put the effort in clearly... ;) )

And the right to work in the UK, obviously. That's all that matters! By the way, I wouldn't wait until Monday, LOROL are known for pulling the advert before the closing date.
