There was a televised match on ITV at 1700 tonight, that I only watched until half-time. The words "creative midfield genius" that the media love to banter was nowhere to be seen. The two goals were a penalty and an own goal. I wonder if ITV had actually scripted that first-half as it was like watching a play from the 1960's where the Dog and Duck were playing the Flying Horse in a Sunday league match...<(

I suppose that explains today's result....

Rothes 0...Fort William 3

Fort William used to be rubbish. I mean, really, really rubbish! What's turned them round?:D

If you recall, in the second-half of last season after their usual dismal start, they produced some good results, not all against the usual strugglers, and actually won no less than eight matches last season.

This season, the mantle of "really, really, rubbish" (to use your phrase) is firmly on Rothes, who have a 100% loss record after their first seven matches, boasting a goal difference of - 41. Their worst three of those seven results are:-
Clachnacuddin 12...Rothes 2
Brora Rangers 11...Rothes 0
Formartine Utd 9...Rothes 0

How about San Marino vs Rothes ?

And the winners play Hyde United.

I cannot pretend that last Saturday's match did not take place, so I am honour-bound to post yet another depressing home match result.

Hyde United 0....Micklover Sports 1

Now back at 16th place in the league and still unable to win a home match this season...<(

the most fantastic thing is that even though UEFA have made it MUCH easier to qualify for the euros the Scottish still cant do it!

Eh; the Netherlands is in a much more worse shape.

1. Iceland * 8-19 (15- 3)
2. Czech Republic * 8-19 (16-10)
3. Turkye 8-12 (11- 9)
4. Netherlands 8-10 (13-10)
5. Letland 8- 4 ( 4-16)
6. Kazachstan 8- 2 ( 5-16)

But what do you expect if you know the last name of our national squad trainer.

Being an assistant coach for a good period of time is no guarantee that when you become the head coach with all the pressure that then entails, you will be able to make a success of the more responsible position.

Incidentally, is Danny Blind the father of the Manchester United player Daley Blind?

According to Wikipedia, yes.

Rooney's just scored his 50th goal. Shame it wasn't an own goal, really, because, if it was, Own Goals would become England's top scorer. No, really, it's on 49.:lol::lol:

Spare a thought for heroic San Marino who scored their first competitive away goal in 14 years last night but then conceded in stoppage time to lose 2-1 to Lithuania-still a very respectable result for them however!

I see that in the big match tonight, the home side won 2-0.

Workington 2....Hyde United 0...<(

Workington are a good team at that level and beat us recently - they should be "up there" at the end of the season. Although i am surprised to see them sitting mid table at present.

Salford lost again last night to Blyth ( another good side) and had another man sent off while Darlo have recovered from a dodgy start to move into second place, one point behind league leaders Blyth Spartans after a 2-0 win v Ramsbottom in front of 1063.

Next up is and FA cup/League home double v ....................... Hyde Utd!

A mouth-watering round of matches...*

*Only if you find football to be mouth-watering. Personally, I don't, but then again I do enjoy the game. Just not that much.

Own Goal is doing brilliant for Arsenal this year. Fair play to the lad, stepping up to the mark when he's most needed, shows he can do it at this level.

When it comes to Manchester United, Own Goal seems to be out injured. Even he can't score for them...

The overrating of Rooney by today's media is nauseating. I remember Charlton and he delivered in the finals whereas all Rooney delivered was a red card.
Please stop calling him a 'legend'.

Sure top goalscorer is a laudable aim, but he is no great, and that has to be separated .

All depends on the definition of greatness, and in this particular respect greatness seems to be getting defined on goals scored for the national team.

Messi will apparently go down as one of the greatest, he has a pretty much identical international record. Cristiano Ronaldo will apparently go down as one of the greatest, he has a pretty much identical international record.

Neither of those have 'major' international honours, the same as Rooney. So what makes them 'great'?

Much of what gets thrown at Rooney is through spite, hate and dare I say it, jealousy, you only have to look at the childish insults above for proof. Yet like it or not, he is the record goalscorer for England and will certainly become the record goalscorer for Man Utd. Not too shabby really, is it.

Why would I be jealous of someone I didn't like, let alone not want to aspire to be? I know many kids from my club who do not look up to Rooney and, having seen the '66 World Cup, he is a world away from Charlton etc.
I define greatness based on a) positive on-the-field and off-the-field attitude b) contributing to their team's successes at finals and c) scoring goals and setting up attacks against world-class opponents. It is impossible to see how Rooney is now all of sudden defined as a 'great' whilst scoring against teams who do not frequent the higher echelons of World Cup finals. No offence to San Marino or Switzerland but neither of those teams are likely to progress to the last-16 of a final now are they?

Since you mention it, which team lost 1-0 to Argentina AET in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup?
