thank you very much for your reply RHP202020,i can stop beating myself for the time being:D. when is your training starting? did they give you the date at the end of the interview? they told me if i was to be successful i'll be starting in April 2017.

At the end of the interview they told me my provisionary start date, which is on March 2017. This was confirmed by email and on the phone. However, should a space becomes available, I'll have a chance to start sooner than later. This is on a first come first served basis.

Congrats csa pat, RHP202020 for making it o the managers interview. Csa hope it goes well for you.

Just wanted to ask you two when you started the application process, when you had you're 1st and second assessment.

Oh was there any hints as to if they would be recruiting again this year?

Thanks

I applied back in October last year and had both my assessments on Jan 2016. I am not too sure if they are going to open the vacancy again this year but just keep on checking this forum and other railway related sites. I remember seeing the deadline for MTR trainee driver vacancy kept on extending for about 3 months after I first applied so you'll never know, they might do it again.

hi everyone, its my first post on this forum. to start with thank you all for your tremendous amount of tips and advice. i just had my DM Interview for old oak last thursday 10.03.16 but haven't heard anything yet. when i left the room i felt that i let myself down as could have said that could have said this. i have seen that a lot of people has got their response within 24 hours. Does that mean anything?

Don't worry pal had mine last week too and haven't heard anything back yet. Also it didn't go as well as I would have liked so will just have to wait and see.

I am starting on the 6th Feb 2017 NUP, looking forward to start the training course already, can't wait. Yes it'll be good to know a few people who's starting in the same group

I don't mean to dampen anyone's hope, but 3 of my mates who went all the way to the DMI all failed in succession, do not understand the reasons at all as 2 were my superiors who were both competent, and the other a bright chap who knew what he was doing. Feeling a bit hard done by for them. Best of luck for who is going through the assessments, go give it your all.

Just found out last week that I'd been successful at the DMI, and have been told that I should expect to start training in March 2017. Really looking forward to it! This forum has been really helpful to me during the process and am grateful to all of you of have contributed. I think everything has been covered previously, but if anyone has any questions about the process I will try and help where I can. And for those who are doing/done their DMI recently I didn't find out I had been successful for about 3 days, so don't sweat it if you don't hear back the next day! Good luck to everyone going through the process and congratulations to all those who have been given training dates. Hopefully a year will go by quickly...!

I got the call that I had been successful at the beginning of the week. Huge thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread as I believe it has helped me greatly.
In my DMI I was asked the usual questions about myself, why I wanted to be a train driver, what I know about the company (MTR) and the Crossrail project and why the career change. I was also asked some more competency based questions that had not been asked in the MMI. Contrary to what many others have said I found the DMI more challenging than the MMI.
About 5 days later I got the call that I had been successful and have a provisional start date in April 2017. A long wait but something to look forward to. Good luck to all those currently going through the process and if I can do it you sure can trough lots of hard work and good preparation.

Got the rejection email today from MTR falling short on the concentration competency questions. On the other hand manage to get the part-time train op on the London Underground for now. Thank you very much for all your help and I will be back MTR. Good luck to everyone that starting their training in the near future.

Yea the assessment for LU where much easier!scaat,trp1&2 and fault finding on day 1 and competency interview and a voice recording exercise. I was an internal staff though so not too sure about externally.

I know we are not suppose to judge a book by its cover, however when it comes to job interviews/assessments, the first impressions are still vital i.e.the depot manager who happen to walk pass the reception might just remember your face since you turned up for your 1st assessment day in an England jersey and made up his/her mind that you are not taking this application seriously. Its doesnt make a very favorable start to your train career now does it? Its might not matter ultimately but its not a gamble i would personally take. Just my 2 cents

Congratulations Trainsailing! Sorry to hear you weren't so lucky CSA Pat, best of luck with London Underground! I think everyone attending the assessment days and interviews should wear a suit, can't do any harm to look smart...!
Scarfacefama I'd had very few interviews before the DMI and none were as important, but I think the best advice is to learn as much about MTR and MTR Crossrail as possible... The more you know the better and then try and prepare for questions such as, 'why do you want to be a train driver?' And 'why do you want to work for MTR Crossrail?' Etc... Good luck with it!

Try get somebody to help you in a mock interview as this can give you opportunity to practice your interview techniques as well as brush up on your answers

I can't really add much more to what's already been said here. Just do your research on MTR and the crossrail project. They may ask you if you know what the training course and the role itself will involve.
I went through this thread and the Illford one and made sure I had an answer for all the questions that were mentioned. Maybe practice responses with somebody or in front of the mirror to build your confidence.
You will be less nervous on the day if you have prepared well. Expect to answer some more competency based questions I can remember at least 3.
And finally be honest with your responses, nobody is perfect and they don't expect you to be. Good luck!

Just seen this thread. I am going for assessment in east end tomorrow, following successful completion of online tests etc. The thing says it takes all day (9-5) .. Is this realistic? Seems like a long time. What is everyone else's experience ?

What's the next stage if successful ? How many more of these do I have to go to ?

I am not too worried if I get through or not as I am not sure if I would take the job if offered, as it would involve a huge pay cut for me for the initial training stage.

Thanks
