The Traws Cymru T3 service is currently out to tender by Gwynedd Council. With the deadline for submissions being the 12th December.

The tender online is for the current T3 timetable operated by Lloyds Coaches

TrawsCymru specification vehicles are required for this service

3x Double Deckers
2x Single Deckers

The three ex GHA Scania deckers arrived yesterday at Lloyd's depot from Ensigns.

I cannot disagree with the points in the two previous posts but to bring this back on topic I wonder if the TrawsCymru network would survive if free travel concessions were withdrawn or curtailed ?

From my observations only about one in four passengers pays a fare or uses a paid ticket of any kind. Not just on long distance routes but certainly in the valleys around Caerphilly on local buses too.

Due to the reduction in payments from local councils for concessionary pass use it is possible to have buses full of concessionary pass holders running at a loss. (Note that Central Government has passed on the negatives to things administered by other bodies).

Have these been delivered to Mach or Doll?

There are 2 at Mach, one in the depot the other in the lower yard. The 3rd one is @ Doll.

They seemed to have revised the "Bus Registration" page on VOSA and I cannot seem to get in to see which operators by region have registered new, cancelled or registered variations other than putting in an operators name. This is quite frustrating and time consuming and doesn't show the most up to date day to day activities of all operators as it previously did. Is anyone else finding the same or am I just having a senior moment - thanks.

Look at the thread:
VOSA web site has been replaced.
It is now impossible to see on a daily basis if any new services have been introduced, varied or cancelled.

Here is the timetable for the new T1C service. It will operate Monday to Saturday with 1 service in each direction.
https://www.firstgroup.com/uploads/node_images/T1C.pdf

as I thought... an exercise to prove that there is no demand... a service that is going to take half hour longer than the old 701... sitting on a bog standard service bus... not calling into Port Talbot (a high generator of passengers) and yet calls into Pencoed (average no of passengers 1 every 2 months)... no service on Sunday... (one of the busiest days on the old 701)

All I can say having seen this abomination is that I hope a decent operator can start a new 701 to the old timetable and show First and the WA how it should be done...

still at least with this the WA will be able to turn round and say "told you so" in 6 months

Someone mentioned that a coach has arrived from Reading, presumably for the T1C service. Other things I will mention is (1) the Cardiff bound service calls at Pencarreg and the Aberystwyth bound doesn't when looking at the T1 timetable unless this changes in December and (2) departing Cardiff at 16:40, 5 minutes behind the X10 which will both operate the same route to Swansea so chances are that passengers who board at Swansea would probably use the earlier X10 thus making the T1C a quieter service until Swansea.

I doubt that it will be a coach, not after all the song and dance that the WA made about making sure the T1 was a low floor bus... after all part of their argument for running a subsidised service at the same times as the 701 was that the 701 wasn't accessible.... as for the service running behind the X10 is that just another way of making sure the new service is doomed to failure?

The service starts Monday December 5th. Fares for example £4 Swansea to Cross Hands (was £3.20 with Lewis). Cross Hands to Cardiff (£7.00). So, ups and downs. However, I can see it failing, due to ditching Port Talbot, retimings, slower service, a bus, not a coach and no Sunday Service! Well done to destroying a promised resurrection into a pathetic 'new' service!

have you tried getting First to admit that the service is starting yet? no announcement on their website or facebook page... just a timetable buried in their TrawCymru subpage.. I spent today on facebook trying to get them to admit the service exists and get them to actually publicise it... all I kept getting was a standard response of "give us your e-mail address and further details of your complaint and we'll look into it"

oh and now they police their public posts so no negative comments appear on their facebook page so even my argument with them will not alert people to this new service starting...

says it all about this abysmal excuse for a bus company and their commitment to the success of the service doesn't it?

I believe some of the Traws services are run purely as contracts (The T4 for example) with the WAG retaining the fare revenue and the conditions about tickets indicate this might be the case with the T1C. In a case like that there's no incentive for the operator to publicise the service at all, certainly not if they think people might be attracted to alternatives such as the X10 or the rail service that they run!

SN15ETD was parked up outside Dolgellau depot yesterday. Looked to be another one inside the depot building

First Cymru have selected Volvo B7RLE CU08AHV 69304 as the vehicle of choice for the T1C service and has been given the TrawsCymru based livery.

With the contract start date being The 1st of February. It is noted that Lloyds Coaches were sucsesfull in retaining the TrawsCymru T3 Service with no timetable change.

It is understood that 2 new Optare Metrocity will be introduced onto this service

The timetable for the T3 has not been released yet by either Cygnor Gwynedd or Traws Cymru. Lloyd's are operating to the interim timetable which albeit with a couple of changes to suit depot returns is basically that as operated by GHA. Lloyd's currently operate 3 vehicles from their Dolgellau depot and out station another 2 at Pat's Coaches, Wrexham, this could well be changed to base all 5 vehicles at Dolgellau. We won't know until the new timetable is published which will be pretty soon. Two of the loaned Enviro E200 hired in saloons remain until the Metro City's arrive.

The timetable in the ITT was identical to the current timetable

But does it still show July 2016, to my knowledge there has not been a new draft since then and when I spoke to Gwynedd they said they were in talks with Trawscymru early February to introduce a new timetable,

The 6pm bus turned in to Swansea at 5:52pm on time. It was rammed with people getting off.

I got on and there were 4 people on there.

Compared to a coach severe lack of seating! It will be bad I fear near summer time!
thanks for that... as for it being bad come summer... if those are typical loadings then it won't last that long... it's only a 6 month trial ending in May...

The T1C leaves Cardiff at 16.40, in theory 5 minutes behind the busy 16.35 X10 to Swansea. However the X10 rarely runs on time during peak periods and I suspect your T1C had most or all of the intending X10 passengers.

I took the 6pm T1c from Swansea on Friday and you are indeed correct. The X10 was in approx 5 mins earlier and the T1c had about 4 people on it none getting off in Swansea, with 2 of us getting on. Two got on in Cross Hands.

This is likely to be withdrawn as not a coach and a bad timetable!

Assume that's because it runs via Neath rather than connecting with a route (at Ystradgynlais?)

Can't see any connection, however a few things that would add a few minutes:-Bay 25 in Swansea bus station was in the underpass section giving a quicker exit. The speed limits along Fabian Way have been extended. Silverline served Neath Rail station, T6 Bus station. Various road "improvements" and the general increase in traffic levels.
