The Maidenhead Stabling Lines will be used for 387 stabling from this Sunday.

That will still be a no then. I've just seen 387s parked up in a loop at ooc, a few more in North Pole, and the rest at w.ealing. Anywhere but Maidenhead currently it seems! ;)

Maidenhead Stabling isn't until July - the sidings aren't finished yet!

Rumours the third 387 diagram may be instated from tomorrow morning, subject to NR confirmation. Presumably the operating experience with two 8-car rakes may have reassured the engineers that the power supplies can in fact support the load originally planned.

If anyone is in the area tomorrow morning, might be worth watching out to see if the 0742 ex-Maidenhead is electric or a Turbo.

I'm sorry... I live in Maidenhead and they look pretty finished to me! All wired up, the ground lights are in place and are also operational and the points are complete also. What is stopping the sidings from being used today?

About the third path being used from tomorrow by 387, it's up to who you believe... WNXX or NR themselves? In my view, I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow's third path was still a Turbo. Regarding that, I'll have a look and report what it is tomorrow morning.

I can confirm I came past around mid morning today and there was a tamper at work there, towards the throat of the sidings, with a number of workers beside it.

All three diagrams expected to be 387 on Fri. TCD not expected to provide Turbo cover.

(Not been in work for the last 24 hrs so of course things may have changed yet again )

Im sorry, I don't live in Maidenhead and can assure you they're not yet finished and won't be used for stabling until July. Yours or my Geographical location doesn't enter into it; nor does it convey any greater operational knowledge.

Friday is what I've been hearing too; but like FGW_DID I've been out the business a few days so anything could happen. But then again Leo lives in Maidenhead so can't possibly be wrong on these things...

There is meant to be different feeding arrangements in place to allow for 3x387s to be OK for Maidenhead, the HEX branch will be fed from Hayes Feeder Station, the Mains and Reliefs from OOC feeder station. If for any reason we have to revert to all feeding from Hayes, then one unit will need to come out of service. The supergrid feeder at Kensal is currently scheduled to come on line in Week 10, which is the week after next.

Is the person (s) responsible for this still in a job?

Exactly. Anyway, 3 x 387 Maidenhead diagrams were out when I left work an hour ago.

I can confirm the 0742 1P94 was a 387.

I can also confirm JN114 that those sidings are complete, everyday I go past them to work and there is nothing left to do and nobody working in them. I did see a tamper in one of the sidings yesterday so apart from that, they are complete.

Don't mistake physically complete for ready to use. There may be other issues 'behind the scenes' that need completing before the first train is able to roll in.

Once they are 100% operational and in use, unless plans get brought forward and STP amendments get issued, it's not till July that the first diagrams use the sidings.

Given the sidings are within a protection limit every night this week, they're definitely not usable. The WON states various work being held in them.

Here's another way to look at it - as has been mentioned a few times, it's costing gwr a fair bit to have units parked up at North Pole, so I'm sure as soon as Maidenhead is available they'll move them.?

Since the Maidenhead sidings are built exclusively for the use of the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail), I'm surprised that it wouldn't cost a fair bit for GWR to keep those 387's there too, given GWR must have to pay TfL to keep trains there?

I think that there is a difference there in that North Pole is a private depot, whereas Maidenhead sidings are part of the national network, but I'm willing to be corrected

As soon as they are available for warm storage of cl.387 units, Maidenhead sidings will be used. Not very long now till that happens.

That diagram now does:

0926 Shoeburyness-Fenchurch Street
1049 Fenchurch Street-Shoeburyness

Went passed North Pole IEP Depot this morning, on my way to Dawlish. Noticed that the following 387's were in the depot:

387138
387145
387148
387149

I had my first ride on a GWR 387 on friday. The ride was really nice, interior is ok. It might have just been the driver but they seemed to really go for it in between stops even ones that aren't that far apart from eachother. However I really don't like the announcements. The lady sounds weird and sneering, almost psychotic  is there a chance it could be TTS? I can't imagine anyone actually sounding like that in real life.

Nah it isn't TTS, it is the same lady as on the Turbos. Luckily she isn't on the GWR 800s.

Yes that'll be Faye, she does sound a bit condescending at times in the announcements I must admit.!

This is about all I could find of her (by name) on youtube, you'll recognise the voice straight away, it's quite... distinct! ;)

Bear in mind on the trains it's usually being played back through some cr_ppy quality PA speaker in a hollow piece of body panelling though! ;)

It seems now that the odd quality of her voice is because she is saying the announcements like she would report the news or the weather, which explains the strange tone. It would probably sound equally as off if someone else tried to do it in that manner.
