It's ok don't worry - I'm aware it could go wrong ! Sorry to go slightly off topic but that's why I'm wary about going on a Saturday - if the 15:31 from Liskeard to Reading is cancelled then a change at Plymouth and Bristol Temple Meads is a really tight one! This is because I could end up on the X2 back from Didcot Parkway back to Abingdon as late as the 22:34 (if you look at the train timetables concerned here then you'll see what I mean).

On a Sunday I can get up later. It involves a taxi yes as the first X2 is around 08:45 from not far off my end of Abingdon instead of an hour earlier. Plus if the 16:31 from Liskeard to Reading is cancelled then the 16:08 stopping service to Bristol Temple Meads arriving at 19:19 gives me a better chance. But the 16:31 due at Reading at 19:49 gives me 17/18 minutes for the South Wales train to Didcot, arriving at 20:23. The X2 is at 20:34.

Going back to the IET business, if 9 or 10 coaches are used and run On Time or not too late then that'd be an absolute miracle!

Not sure anyone can really help you at this stage, as the details of the amended weekend timetables because of the electrification work are not currently being made public before a couple of weeks beforehand. You have not given any indication of which date you are travelling other than after late August, but even if you had no-one would be able to guarantee which trains are planned to run, let alone which trains actually will run, or which type of rolling stock would be employed. However I would have thought a journey from Cornwall to Didcot on a Sunday would be possible whatever timetable comes to fruition on the day.

It probably wouldn't be til the 30/09/18 anyway :) - she's off I know. With any luck the services won't be that busy compared to Summer Sundays.

First IETs in passenger service to Devon will be from Saturday 28th July. 9 car Class 800/3. Initially Saturdays only.

0818, 1018, 1218 Paddington to Paignton services and their return workings at 1308, 1450 and 1700. Due to Newbury blockade all will run via Swindon (not all calling) and Westbury.

I apologise for the incorrect words earlier - 'she's off I know' should've actually said 'ages off I know' !

802s was supposed to start serving Devon from this week. Has that been put back now?

16th, subject to change as driver issues could appear.

Diagrams:
0553 Plymouth-London

0730 London-Penzance, 1400 return

1633 London-Exeter SD, 1955 return

2003 London-Plymouth

I'd tend to believe Clarence Yard rather than comment from rail journalists/GWR public relations, but who really knows?

Are any IETs serving Cheltenham on Saturdays (and if so service from Paddington to Cheltenham is likely to produce?) or are they still mostly Monday to Friday only?

It really depends on the crewing situation that day.
Cheltenham's are the first to go if there's a shortage.

The 1015 PAD - CNM appears to be an IET

Well we will find out next week. Most of the time journalists talk a lot of rubbish about the railway.

Perhaps worth bearing in mind that on the Cotswold Line nine-car operation was meant to start on Monday, June 11th, then it was meant to be pushed back to the 18th, but they then stared to appear in service on the afternoon of the 13th...

Let's just say that the odds of a first appearance by a Class 802 on a passenger service somewhere in the middle of August appear to be quite good...

That's the lot - runs empty stock from Stoke Gifford at the start of the day and returns there after reaching Hereford in the evening.

No IETs at the weekend, when trains from Hereford or Worcestershire are only running as far as Moreton-in-Marsh and all services are Turbos.

Any ideas how quickly the 802s will be introduced to Penzance. Booking a trip in the middle of September. Seat reservations are suggesting the 10:00, 12:04 and 14:00 will be IETs. Is that likely?

Based on what has already been posted in this thread, either next Monday or 20th August. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. How many sets will be in service by the middle of September is anyone's guess.

Well seeing as I am driving 2003 pad to ply next Monday and have never touched an IET in my life I think it a safe bet that those diagrams remain HST next week ;)

The Great Western near Exeter St Davids station is a pub frequented by many train drivers (after their shifts obviously). Tonight was the first time I've heard neutral sections and lowering and raising of pantographs being discussed!

Yes no doubt training is progressing down here slowly but surely. I haven't been collared yet and tbh am in no hurry. I'll stick with HSTs thank you
