Oh right my offer email said start date TBC
You have the offer and I'm sure you have accepted so just sit tight mate, I was told in my interview to expect a Jan start. What depot are you going for. (Apologies if you have already answered this 100 times already).

Same here!

I think it probably depends on how quickly they could get your medical sorted etc. I was last on the second assessments and guess it was a late on interview as well, so it makes sense to sort everyone who got through before me first. Not sure of when you passed the various stages though.

Hi yeah not too worried as I know I’ve been offered just wondered if anybody had any idea of timeframes,

It’s east mids so I’m guessing Toton more than likely,

Yeah I guess that would make sense they must of had 100’s of people applying must be a right headache for the recruitment team,

Hopefully hear something for a Jan start,

I think going on my notice period, I'll probably be on a later course, so I guess Feb/March start.

There's only so many put on the courses, so depends on how many are already on courses in January. There's usually no more than 2 courses running at any one time (due to the amount of driver instructors).

So if those courses are full, I'd estimate you'll be on a course March / April time.

That’s great thanks for the info that makes sense,
Hopefully hear something soon,

I phoned them up last Wednesday because I'd been waiting over a week for the confirmation of my medical pass, and when I asked when I would hear about a start date, I was told they are in the process of sorting them out now.

Heaps92 said they waited a week after the confirmation of the medical for a start date, and the medical results had been slow in getting to DB in my case (time of year I suppose). I'd like to think it would be sooner rather than later though!

Sorry that doesn't really answer your question

When did you have your medical?
I got given a start date of December then pushed back to January sue to medical company failing to meet time requirements for other candidates

Had my SAM interview today (safety assurance manager?). Was very relaxed, though I didn’t think as relaxed at Freightliner. One of this interviews I just can’t call. Fingers crossed!

Hi might be a silly question,

But will a JD position lead to mainline driving in the future if you wanted it to?
Also any ideas on how long you would need to be a JD before you can apply to move towards mainline,

1. Yes, in face, that’s the idea of it, although you’d never be pressured in to it.

2. As and when vacancies arise. In fact at my interview they said there was talk of some interviewees being offered mainline jobs even though they applied for JD positions.

It's a line of promotion. The JD position is seen as an entry position onto the railway for furture mainline drivers.

No minimum time for promotion to mainline, like Stigy says, some may go straight through to mainline. It all depends on the hub you go to and vacancies there. As soon as vacancies arise, they'll likely be offered to JD pretty quickly.

No roster yet for junior drivers as we don't have any fully trained up yet. However you'll not be driving on the yard for very long.

Elaborate on the driving? please mate

Acton like a lot of depots is short on drivers, and it is a struggle attracting people to the London depots. If you're fully mainline trained in the rules, then very likely once you've completed the junior driving hours they'll want you out on the mainline.

Thanks for replying mate, yeah I thought this could be the case. It was said in my interview that I could roll straight through.

What's a typical shift pattern for a driver? PM if it's better, cheers.

Anybody have any idea what sort of hours you work during training as a JD?

Is it classroom based to start with weekdays and weekends?
