As I understand it mileage accumulation is separate from the testing over the routes to be operated. The former is just proving that the trains themselves are fit for acceptance by TPE. The urgent need is to get some sets available to TPE for crew training to start. You can do all the testing you want, but without fully trained up crews they aren't going anywhere. The longer it takes for this process to start, the bigger the problem becomes since in due course there will be a training requirement for 397's and 802's also. Crews can only be stretched so far before the service starts to suffer due to a shortage of available train crews, we've seen it time and time again. I doubt that another summer of cancellations and delays would go down well with TPE's long suffering passengers. As usual when things aren't going well, TPE have gone into 'radio silence' mode.

How have TPE gone into radio silence mode, if you don't mind me asking? Unless you mean internally and you work for TPE?

Before Xmas, they said it was delayed until spring - presumably May TT change and have been posting stuff on social about it being introduced later in the year - not sure how that's radio silence.

Even if it is again delayed as it's not ready for passenger service, isn't it more an issue about CAF too? Caledonidan Sleeper nearly 2 years late, TPE 9 months late and Northern due in May...

Your photos are amazing! Have I not said that before now...?

I will second that.

So why was BREL York closed again? Think I, or possibly someone else, may have lost the plot with this one.

To my mind, it’s sickening to see that someone has daubed that on the side of a train.

Yes i bet whoever did this graffiti/vandalism found it quite funny as well. Disgusting!

Woe betide folk get melodramatic.

Child murder is disgusting , famine is sickening, neither of which bear any relation to petty vandalism of a railway carriage in North Yorkshire .

Pure hyperbole.

It still isn't acceptable to deface other peoples' property. Maybe not the right terms, but it cannot be suggested to be OK.

I could be convinced otherwise for genuinely artistic graffiti (e.g. Banksy) on boring plain concrete walls (though "tagging" has no place anywhere), but not on things that have obviously already been decorated in the manner the owner intended.

Ok then you win. I’m a bit peeved about the daubing. Ok now?;)

Woe betide people getting melodramatic about other peoples posts and then getting all high and mighty by listing things which have no context to the actual discussion.
Pure hyperbole at its best ;)

Best part about it, there is actually a place where people can paint graffiti in Scarborough, an over bridge under Wykeham Street on the former Scarborough to Whitby line. Half the murals on those walls have more artistic value than the rubbish sprayed on the DT and adjoining carriage on the mark 5A set.

Just a 68 presumably, rather than a full set?
68020 was on 0B68, terminated at York.

Not sure but I think 68022 might be 0M68, certainly that loco went on to York P SD last night and the train seems to have started there. Light loco.

Looks like it's 68023 on 0M68.

68020 should be working 0B66 from York and 0B67 back from Scarborough.
Thanks for that, appreciated. 68020 ‘Reliance’ sat on the Exam line at York this evening, the one behind platform 2.

Part of the new pedestrian part of Scarborough bridge arrived last Sunday, pic below of 68022 ‘Resolution’ passing by.

I noticed today that the so-called Manchester International Depot at Longsight, which never operated as such, now sports a CAF company logo on the side.
This is where we used to see "Eurostar habite ici" emblazoned on the side for the last 20 years or so!
So presumably CAF has taken a lease on the premises, or has some kind of ownership of the depot (as opposed to TPE or Network Rail).

The CAF signage appeared in the last month or so. There hasn't been any Eurostar lettering on the building for as long as I can remember.

Am I correct in saying there haven’t been any Nova 3 runs this week? Certainly just been the light engine Class 68 trips at York.

Pic below of 68024 ‘Centaur’ plus Nova 3 at Scarborough. In the picture the train is quite far away, just like its introduction into passenger service...;)

Just thought a reminder of what a Nova 3 looks like would help to jog memories...

There doesn't seem to be anything on RTT from this Monday, except the 397's outing. The only run on the Longsight-Carlisle 'mileage accumulation' circuit over the last 3 weeks was on Monday 25 February. There were the runs to Scarborough last week of course, but the lack of other outings is concerning, quite the opposite of what you would expect at this stage.

Thanks! Is that a loco at the front? ;)

Watched a documentary about crossrail a couple weeks ago and the couplings were already rusy and the trains aren't in service yet! Hopefully the Nova 3's will be introduced before they start to be taken over by nature ;)

Looking forward to seeing Geoff Marshall doing a video about the new trains hopefully!

There's a pair of TPE class 68s stabled at the south end of Longsight depot (The 'proper' Longsight, rather than the International depot across the way where 57305 has been residing outside the shed for at least the past week): One of them is definitely 68031 "Felix" but is anyone able to identify the one it's coupled to?

i thought that the 345s are in service, just with "TfL Rail" until the tunnels open. unless they're only using some of them on "TfL Rail"

Must have, makes more sense to build five times more engines and introduce noise and vibration into the carriages clearly! Looking forward to seeing some new "proper trains" in action
