1C08 is being led by 43002 today and looking resplendent as always (despite the weather).

Will this have a return working to Paddington?

Do we know anymore about this speculated Cotswold Line working on the 31st yet?

The final scheduled passenger service of a GWR full fat HST is due to be (subject to usual operational caveats) 1C26 the 1830 from London Paddington to Exeter St Davids on Saturday 18th May 2019. That would normally terminate at Taunton but is extended to Exeter that day.

I’m on holiday that day so won’t be me on it! :(

I'm a bit confused here, sorry. On one post it says 1C26 is scheduled to be the last full-size GWR HST's but in the above one I'm assuming 1W39 and 1P69 are listed as the last full GWR HST's.

I don't always read things properly but I guess the last scheduled HST working on the North Cotswold Line is Mother's Day (31/03/19) and that the scheduled last ever HST is 1A26 on the 18/05/19?

As much as I'll miss the HST's - especially where I wait for a Reading / London train on platform 2 and see one appear from the southern end and speed through platform 1 - I'll be delighted that I can no longer check with GWR if my service (on an InterCity service) is an IET or HST :).

To be honest I hope GWR run the castle sets for as long as Scotrail run their 4 and 5-car HST's which I believe is til 2030!

I may try for 1A26 back to Didcot either from Reading or London - on the 07/04/18 that was my connecting train after leaving the 16:00 from Plymouth.

That'll no doubt book up fast if it's well circulated ;)

Any self respecting HST enthusiast would be at the SVR gala that day, hopefully having 41001 rather than doom bashing bent GWR junk.

Latest information I have heard is that the last HST on 18/5 will now be the 1633 Paddington to Taunton.

This is not confirmed.

If so, that's not a timetabled service. There's no 1633 to Taunton on Saturdays.

Article has been edited since first released. It confirms the information I gave a few days ago. Last GWR HST in scheduled passenger service will be the 1830 Paddington - Exeter St Davids on Saturday 18th May 2019.

Indeed. GWR website currently shows the 18.30 only going to Taunton and with no advance ticket availability.

The liklihood of APs being released for the 1830 are miniscule. I've even had trouble securing a seat reservation with walk up split tickets.

I can't get seat reservations between any stations on this train.

Sorry but it may be worth me saying GWR haven't confirmed which service yet is the last of their full -length HST operation, so probably best not to book anything yet. I DM'd them.

However I believe an HST tour using 43002 and 43185 is planned for visiting the places served by HST's.

Watch this space :) !

But yet Rail Magazine claim that GWR have confirmed it as being the 18.30 Padd to Taunton on 18th May.

To be quite honest I've never seen so much conflicting information on one thread. :)

It has been all but confirmed in the RAIL article. And has also been confirmed to certain stakeholders by board level GWR staff. One of whom was my source earlier in the week.

Crikey this is more conflicted than the FGW Valenta Farewell in 2007! Good grief, that was over 11 years ago, don't I suddenly feel old...

A farewell with 43002 involved? Oh that sounds interesting. A final farewell to 'my' machine before it retires to the NRM would be nice. Highly likely it'll be revealed as soon as I book my next world exploration trip and it happening the same day I jet off! That would not surprise me.

I concur with the member who said self-respecting HST heads will be at the SVR for 41001, when I found out about that I felt my eyes almost pop out of my head. I *must* ensure I don't book flights for that weekend...

I may not be an HST basher these days, and haven't been for over 9 years, but they're still special to me. So much so I will turn down social obligations for both the SVR gala and any chance at the HST farewell, now that's significant. I can even tell you what I'll be telling my norm mates "Sorry I can't do that, I have a farewell to the HST to attend!" or in the case of the SVR gala "Sorry, no can do, I've got a date with some big noisy beasts!"

I'll be honest, I'm prepared to miss out on a London RT bus event on the 30/03/19 if it means spending money on a final GWR full length HST trip in mid-May before full IET operation is guaranteed on InterCity services!

Showing my age, but I remember when the HSTs were new-ish down in Devon & Cornwall, and a number of us then stated we'd never get a "tram" in Cornwall.

Having moved up to Bristol 20-odd years ago, I've *still* never had a 'tram' in Cornwall :)
