Drivers
Location: Corby or Kettering
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £39,126
Closing Date: Thursday 23 May 2019
Reference: 2019-136
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join East Midlands Trains as a Trainee Mainline Driver in the Northamptonshire area. Due to an investment in our services from December 2020 there will be a twice hourly rail service between Corby and St Pancras delivering increased travel growth for the residents in the surrounding areas. These additional services mean we will require Trainee Mainline Drivers as we will be building a train depot in the Northamptonshire area, likely to be in Corby or Kettering. This route is currently undergoing significant investment from our partners at Network Rail and we will also see the introduction of new modern electric trains servicing the communities in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton and London. We are working with wider industry colleagues to finalise the exact details.
As a Trainee Mainline Driver you will automatically be enrolled on the new national Train Driver Level 3 apprenticeship programme when you join the Company. You do not require any previous qualifications but it is highly desirable for candidates to hold a Level 2 qualification in English, Maths and ICT in order to achieve the apprenticeship qualification. The apprenticeship scheme is a year long qualification and you will train alongside other successful applicants at our Training Academy based in Derby.
Successful candidates will need to be responsible and committed to providing excellent service through efficiency, high standards and most of all, safely. Once fully qualified as a Train Driver you will be required to work four days a week, where the working week is Monday to Sunday inclusive; and an average of 35 hours a week over the roster cycle.
We are therefore looking to build a talent pool of fantastic people who have previous backgrounds in operational and customer focused roles and live within the Northamptonshire area. The recruitment process is lengthy, but the role is important and we are looking for the right candidates with the ability to manage the safety critical operational side to the role as well as provide an amazing customer experience to our customers. You will be expected to undergo 4 parts of assessment during the recruitment process, which includes national driver testing which is conducted by The Occupational Psychology Centre, as well as successful completion of a driver medical.
The first stage of assessments dates are:
• Part 1 – Driver testing Stage 1: 11th, 12th and 13th June 2019
• Part 2 – Assessment Days: Early July 2019
• Part 3 – Competency based interviews: Late July and early August 2019
• Part 4 – Driver testing Stage 2: w/c 19th August 2019
Please note further testing and recruitment will take place throughout 2019/2020 in order to ensure all those successful at application stage are assessed. If successful you will be placed into a Talent Pool and be offered a role when opportunities become available. Training courses will commence at a number of dates throughout 2019 and 2020.
Please note the minimum age requirement to apply for this role is 21. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds. Women and ethnic minority groups are currently under-represented within our Driver population and are encouraged to apply as we value diversity and are committed to ensuring equality across our organisation.
The successful candidates will enjoy an incredibly competitive salary, and fantastic benefits including a defined benefit salary pension scheme, free travel for you, your partner and children on the East Midlands Trains network and discounted travel with other train companies, childcare vouchers and cycle scheme.
To apply please complete the online application form and upload your CV. As we operate a blind screening process please remove all personal information including your name from your CV. All applicants will be required to live within 60 minutes travelling distance of the Depot or if you are able to relocate please state this in your application.
