don't blame it on tpe cuz of the fire regulations we must turn it on dft
If you find 800 seats uncomfortable on GWR/LNER, yes. If not, then no. As far as I can tell they're identical, not just on TPE 802s but also the 397s and Mk5s.does that mean uncomfortable?

From appearances in images I believe they do, you're right to point that out, but I don't know if I'd consider the different cover to make enough of a difference for those that dislike the seats on 800/0s not to dislike the others. It helps, but it certainly doesn't transform them into actually padded seats like those fitted to EMUs before 2015 or so.Though note that there is a noticeable difference in comfort between the older "flat cloth" cushion and the newer "moquette" one on GWR. Both TPE and LNER claim they use the newer type. Neither is great, but with the older design you can very much feel that metal supporting bar, but with the newer one much less so.

Does anyone know which set numbers they are? I imagine that a few hundred odd enthusiasts will be after spotting them from 'Basford Bank' on Saturday.
Yeah I'm fine with firm seats such as the E3000, but I still much prefer that to the modified seat used on the 802s - I think that's the point, even those who are normally pretty tolerant of hard seats, including the ironing boards on units like the 700s, don't think that the seating used on the 800 series is fit for purpose. There will always be people that prefer them the way they are but I genuinely feel they're in a minority - I would like to see a survey with a good sample size to see genuinely where the opinion lies. We rail enthusiasts are certainly known for making a fuss over nothing sometimes. No, but it does make them reasonably acceptable (though not the best) to those of us who like reasonably firm seats (without metal bars in silly places) like ironing boards, Grammer E3000s (the Desiro seat) etc.
Seems to be electric testing today on the 'problem' section north of Darlington.
5Q8x paths Newcastle <-> Darlington all day (5Q82-5Q89 inclusive, with unit from Doncaster Carr).80x electric approval expected before August, save for any further hiccups.
The daytime testing this week is:
MTO 5Q54, 5Q55 Heaton <-> Liverpool Lime Street (today's was cancelled). This week's overnight testing consists of (Monday-Wednesday/Thursday am):
5Q76 20:32 Heaton Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot to Manchester Victoria (via Castleford)The roundabout routes are due to engineering work between Leeds and Mirfield
5Q77 00:39 Manchester Victoria to Leeds (via Wakefield Kirkgate)
5Q78 02:11 Leeds to Manchester Victoria (via Wakefield Kirkgate)
5Q79 03:26 Manchester Victoria to Heaton Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot (via Wakefield Kirkgate and Leeds)
Great stuff, thanks for the updateThe problem section is now Berwick area.
We have authorised 19 @HitachiRailEU AT300 5-car bi-mode trains for use by @TPExpressTrains.
Almost - there would still have been more 802s otherwise, so unless the 802s TPE actually ordered come into service 2+ months before the CAF stock, they managed a couple of months' headstart. Not exactly a great deal though I admit. So does this mean that (with the benefit of hindsight) the procurement exercise to get CAF stock into use more quickly than the IETs proved to be completely pointless, which will now needlessly saddle TPE with different types of rolling stock?

So what happens next
1-3 yes, 4 noby the way···.
Newcastle men 1st?Staff training can start. Instructors first, then link drivers and guards.
I thought Mk5s were approved as the first two sets have been accepted by TPE for staff training. Is the introduction still expected to be December or could that date be accelerated given that the 802 is presently the only TPE product to have ORR approval?
Perhaps your comment could have been a little more diversified... Newcastle "crew", "staff", ... . Anything to suggest that there are actually female drivers/guards. It's not solely a dig at you, but far too common across this forum.Newcastle men 1st?
It was my understanding they have been accepted by TPE to commence staff training, but not approved for passenger use. They're supposed to still have "issues".I thought Mk5s were approved as the first two sets have been accepted by TPE for staff training.
I'm not seeing any sign of progress on this issue at all. I get the feeling it's one of those caveats that'll be in there for years with nothing actually done...
- Hitachi have to work on a solution to the 'cable ladder' issue, and TPE have to manage the risks prior to this being resolved

Don't think ORR will accept that I very much doubt it.I'm not seeing any sign of progress on this issue at all. I get the feeling it's one of those caveats that'll be in there for years with nothing actually done...
There's no deadline for resolving it though, that I can see?Don't think ORR will accept that I very much doubt it.
Why is this the case? Can operate in 10-car formations but pantographs must be on the outer sides of the formation to attain line speed >75mph
