It was 1976 they were first introduced.Although indeed C313s are regarded as the first production 'PEP' units, it's worth recalling that the prototype trains were actually aluminium bodied, had all axles powered and offered three doors per side. They really were what one needs for intense suburban railways; the prototypes had a power/weight ratio 30% higher than C313. The 455s, a derivative of the C313, somehow ended up with a power/weight ratio 5% lower again than the C313, a result of being heavier. Really not what's needed on a suburban railway although it's taken us all about 40 years to realise that!
Still, I remember the C313s being introduced on the GN in 1977 and the original 20 min off-peak timetable that came with it. Tremendous improvement on the erratic DMU service beforehand. They've had an honourable life these past 43 years and have certainly earned their keep.
I thought it was 313038 and 313042 today.313038 and 313040 made their final journey from Hornsey to Newport Docks behind 37884 today.

Just passed Hitchin, with a small turnout as they left their home territory. RIP.
The contract is split 50/50 isn’t it? There have been reports of both Sims and Booths earlier. Why they going there and not sims scrap?

when are the next unit/s looking to be going?
Probably Monday morning, to Sims Metals Newport. This has been a regular Monday fixture for the last few weeks now.
Must admit Booths is preferable as it gives a better opportunity to photograph the units on their home territory, albeit under falling light as these moves take place in the evening.
Apparently it looks like October 31st but lets wait and see. When's the last day of the 313s at this rate?
Another scrap move is due this morning.
37884 is making it's way to Hornsey as 0E55, 313056 + 024 look like the likely pair ready to commence their final move to Newport later on this morning.
It ran and is now around Swindon, ran early so I missed it.Another scrap move is due this morning.
