The alcohol one just means those people who were drinking outdoors will now drink indoors, surely?
Was that ever a problem? This seems more like they're making petty restrictions to be seen to be doing something.
Public consumption of alcohol is banned in quite a lot of Scotland already by local by-laws - I think this is the first national restriction
In Edinburgh the pubs around the Meadows did a roaring trade in the summer - that seemed to be generally OK as there is plenty space to distance and most folk were just meeting friends for a sociable pint. There were some incidents related to excess consumption but I don't think they were serious enough to warrant a clampdown (it was more the Buckie Brigade causing the problem anyway -nowt to do with the pubs)
There have been a few pubs where groups were gathering directly outside and treating like a public beer garden by going back and buying one drink at a time. Whilst this is not actually illegal (unless a bylaw applies) I don't think it's seen as within the intent or spirit of the law regarding the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises
This has caused the occasional crowding / lack of distancing problem and some premises were given "words of advice" by the Police and Licencing Officers.
With the current weather it's probably a bit of a non-issue
I'd much rather have this restriction than have an complete off sales ban from pubs which was a distinct possibility (or delivery only like England) as carry outs are the only thing keeping some pubs afloat (we have been making a valiant effort to support our local thoughout!)
