Picture has emerged on the Class 315 Preservation Society Fb group showing a single DT from LO 315809 left at Wolverton Works so I wonder if that unit is now being disposed of at last?
The rest of it is in the main yard, it may just be shunted out the way to make way for more 442's to come in.

Quite remarkable that 809 is still around though I doubt it’ll be there for much longer. Think Booths Rotherham may have now disposed of the remaining 315 carriages that were at their yard for months

From Wednesday 28 July 2021 TfRail will be operating 6x9 car 345’s on the east. So looks like the 315’s will be coming to an end soon

809 was reported stripped on the back of a low loader today, I presume bound for Sims.

I saw a report of a TfL/LO liveried coach on the M4 on 19/07/21 so that was probably part of 315809 as well

What happens if there is an October blockade in the tunnel, as is rumoured?

The last two blockades have seen no 9-cars operating east side because they can't be maintained at Ilford and the blockade prevents them returning to Old Oak Depot.

Might that final blockade be the final time the 315s are used, noting that they will see fewer workings until then? I guess 315 longevity also depends on whether 345 extension is going to take priority over 315 withdrawal.

Either way, I accept that it is apparent that 315s are now in their final days.

There is a upgrade required to ELR100 software to the 345's before trial operations commence which may require another core blockade although it maybe just a software dump.

Yes exactly what I was told back in early may 2021. By a very nice driver working for mtr crossrail.
Who did informed me very well ie that some would go by end July.
With the final ones expected any time asap between end July to early October at the latest.
But don't hang around till the last minute ie August and September to get them in.

There is a two week blockade in October and how I understand it MTR are now saying that if any unit swaps are needed they will be loco hauled. Not just the 7 cars

Can't the nine cars just use the North London line for transfers?

Not without a locomotive - there is a gap in the wires at Acton and they (presumably) aren't cleared on the route under their own power in any case.

Been reported on that a class 315 will be preserved. Presumably after they are all retired. Excellent news!

Rumours that today could be the last planned day of service: https://twitter.com/BeingJarley/status/1393086933027463168?s=19
Well here we are and 315s are still very much in use. Three years after the Elizabeth line should have opened and we're still using rolling stock from the 80s. On a rainy day (like today) dodging the occasional indoor downpour from a leaking roof adds to the entertainment of commuting...

... And northerners complain they have been neglected!

Ye well they complain about everything like having pacers when we had mostly slammers back in the day

To be fair they have plenty of trains that are nearly as old and also leak.

Were the windows open by any chance? I've been on several 317s recently where people seem happy to sit with the letter box ventilators wide open with the rain pouring in.

According to Modern Railways, the 315s are set to be retained into 2022. One of the longest railway goodbyes may yet roll on.

In fairness, they're still reliable and do the job. They're a credit too to Ilford who keep them in sparkling nick.

I thought the last time I'd drive one was their "last" day in May. Seems I have one next week now. I'll have to get the manual out. Lol.

They really are kept in great condition. I'd imagine due to the tfl concession agreement and the fines levied if they were not.

It does show you what can be achieved even with stock as old as this they put many other units half there age to shame.

Rumoured to be 818 + 834 making their last journey to Newport that day
Whilst out on out on abeillo greater Anglia today. And talking to a couple off tfl staff members it will be a pair off 315 for scrap. However 8 are due to stay into 2022. Don't have numbers.
However sadly and including Mondays move ie as above ie x6 will go for scrap before xmas.

315 820 has been saved for preservation though. It will go to the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway once it leaves service and be restored to original condition.

Interesting that an entire unit will make its way to Wales! Especially given that 315s were originally mooted for Valley Lines.
