I’ve enjoyed seeing people’s pictures of the 313s lately. True, I have been more than vocal of my opinion that they’re well past time to go, and I have also added that I personally believe the 377 will offer a much nicer travelling experience for Joe Public, but I won’t deny having a fondness for the Southern ones. I think they look great in the green Coastway livery - although the fact the doors are a different shade of green to those on 171/377/late 455 always confused me - and as someone who would regularly get the train down to Portsmouth from near Guildford to get things from the Nike outlet at Gunwharf Quays (and more recently to catch the GWR to Cardiff for uni) I’ll admit I used to alight the SWR service at Havant to continue my journey on a quirky 313. That being said, I hated the GN ones!

It’s a shame that I won’t get to go on one again now, but as I said, it is well past time and trains with toilets really are needed on the Coastway. Plugs and tables are also very useful of course.

Oldest running units will be mersey peps

I think the oldest entered service November 1978, most were 1979-1981

Fairly sure some of the remaining HST vehicles might be older (entered service 1976-82), and aren't there also some mk3 carriages with Chiltern etc that were from mid 1970s

So unless anyone has definite dates, not sure if the 313s are the oldest mainline passenger stock.

The oldest Chiltern Mark 3 is 12618, originally 11008.
The oldest (now) HST Mark 3 is XC's 45001, which was originally 12004, the first production LHCS TSO.

As LHCS Mark 3 production started in 1975, it is likely one of these is the oldest vehicle in service.

A large proportion of the Mark 3 fleet will be older than the 507 and 508 fleet.

Just went to hove to check is 313201 there. Turns out it isn’t. Only 313204 and some other unit behind it.

I checked trains that went in and out of hove yard. I can’t confirm which one is 313201. It may have moved to elsewhere or have returned to Lovers Walk? Again I can’t tell.

Isn't 313201 going to the National Railway Museum at some point?
nope. they changed the designation to the NR ECTS testbed as it retains several 'as built' features, which its southern refurbed sisters no longer have
