Its so cute! lol
^ - See...Not all "Spiders" are as bad as ye seem to think they are! :D

And regarding my link in the previous post: I added the warning to ward ye away from it (It shows a tiny Spider in close-up) with the intention of ye having someone else (Who's not afraid of Spiders) to compare it to the one in thy copy of Guiness World Records. :)

Whilst I'm here - And with it being apparent that I'm the only member of the forum with an affection for Spiders - Would anyone mind if I try to dissect and figure out Arachnophobia, whilst we're discussing it?
I know that the fear of Spiders is a strong and very real one for those with Arachnophobia, but in my case - Try as I can to understand the condition - I cannot seem to figure out how people can be afraid of something so harmless and adorable as the average house spider... :?

^As is the same for anything, ask people why they like trainspotting, or don't like it. It's just... what makes us, us.

I absolutely hate spiders. So much that I wont even click the links in Aussie_Rail's post in case there are pictures. I will get someone else to kill them.
In that case, you are very lucky you didn't click them. I hate spiders as much as you do and I can tell you that getting those links gave me goose bumps and gave the shivers!

You are even luckier that I didn't just post pictures of them either!

Like in one of the world record books, on the inside cover there was a tarantula, I tried to turn that page over with the one before so I didn't need to look
I know the one you are talking about, I've seen it too. As far as I know we don't have tarantula's in Australia, we have enough big black fury ones of our own to contend with!

Be my guest! Generally and in most cases anything bigger than a thumb nail will start to freak me out.

The biggest Spider I have ever seen was the size of a dinner plate and I nearly fainted after the feeling that I was going into cardiac arrest! It was that bad I was outa there fast enough to run on water!

I know that the fear of Spiders is a strong and very real one for those with Arachnophobia, but in my case - Try as I can to understand the condition:?
I guess it depends on how you brought up and what your early experiences of them were. I mean, I hate snakes equal with spiders and look at Bindi Erwin she loves them to bits, that's because she grew up with them from an early age, If I had the same upbringing as her I would probably no doubt love snakes like she does. So I'd say its all about the type of upbringing you have had with them.

I cannot seem to figure out how people can be afraid of something so harmless and adorable as the average house spider... :?
Harmless! lol You obviously don't know a lot about Spiders do you? ;) The ones I try to ward off have very nasty bites, some have been known to kill in extreme cases. In no way are Spiders adorable in any shape or form!

If I had a panic room, I'd be in there every time I come across a spider where I would have a local pest control firm on speed dial!

Every now and again in the media you here of people calling the Police because they had a spider and no one about to deal with it.

On the basis that they've got as must right to be here as we do, I most normally try and move them outside.

I will kill very small uncatchable things though, as well as ants.

They never show you the exotic spiders that Australia is home to in Neighbours or Home and Away LOL!

I once saw a large spider and wasp fighting under a shop balcony! The wasp eventually flew off with the spider. Both nasty things!

I too find that wasps go out of their way to annoy you, were bees leave you alone. If they come inside I try to flick them out of the window with a paper first and will only kill them if there is a real risk of being stung. I have never been stung yet and don't intend to be!

Especially when in Home and Away where you are likely be inundated with many of the Sydney Funnel Web Spiders, and in Neighbours where you'd have plenty of the larger sized Huntsman Spiders, White Tail Spiders and Trapdoor Spiders. But if they worked all them into the episodes they would probably freak a vast majority of the viewers.

That's why Steve Irwin was popular!

Flies I will kill if they are bothering me or if I have food about. Wasps Ill kill regardless, bees ill help them get back out but spiders have to go...I hate the things.

Nothing worse then waking up to find one sitting on your face!

Anyone fancy a couple of Camel Spiders :)...

Horrible thing that! Made me start itching!

Moths are one thing that freak me out more than anything else, if I had my way I'd burn them all with matches whenever they come in. Ever since one navigated its way into my ear during my childhood, I can't stand them or any other insects.

You might think it stupid to kill bees and spiders, as they supposedly help us (I have seen no evidence to support the theory with spiders), but when they freak you out then it's perfectly rational to think of destroying them all.<(

I think the theory with spiders is that they help control the population of flies, however Id rather swat them myself than have some spindley thing crawling up and down and all over me.

My irrational fear of spiders is quite odd, things like tarantulas dont really bother me too much (allthough I wouldnt want to meet one) and Ill happily looks at pictures of them. However the really ugly, thin and alien looking ones creep me out just thinking about them.

What I don't get is why flies and wasps fly into windows and then keep attacking them in the same spot if they don't get through first time.

Also doesn't it hurt their heads to keep banging into some glass?

My stepdad caught a massive one in a glass. It was so big not all of it would fit in the glass. He took a decent picture of it. You can see its eyes, facial detail and even the hair on its legs. A great picture. Unfortunately its on his laptop. (The picture not the spider)

I hate the little greenflies that seem to be attracted to clothing when you're cycling minding your own business not to mention the little black ones which haunt the office, we have a flyzapper but half the flies end up on the table - don't know if they attracted to my peace lily though but they certainly a pain.

Apparently there's a chance that spiders may be afraid of horse chestnuts, aka conkers.

This story from The Daily Telegraph says that the Royal Society of Chemistry is investigating.
