 (less than 3 carriages, not an internet heart) is still not possible, nor will it ever be with the Electrostar and many other AC EMUs. The pickup vehicle, at least with this design, is never driving or motored.

You knew what I meant! ;) :D

On WNXX its been reported:

604 is now commissioned

605 has SDO/CCTV fault

Next unit is coming 28/08.

Also been told 377311 is now going back to Selhurst as its no longer needed for testing.

EDIT

Both 604 & 605 have been out this week as a 10 car test unit.

606 has now been delivered, here's a video of it passing Lyon Airport Parkway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9X64083TI8

377601/604-608 are in the Gemini system now meaning what they are assigned is easier to track.

We got our first briefing on them today. They have a new way of opening the cab door, plus dont have a monitor on the guards panel. Plus a new procedure when the smoke alarm goes off in the lav, which I'm not too sure about.

The alarm causes the retention tanks to empty on the person smoking?

There are posts on some gen groups suggesting that the first 377/6 passenger workings will take place on the Victoria to Brighton line on Tuesday. This pair will apparently be 377 604 + 377 605 with a second pair ( 377 606 + 377 607 ) joining in when both are available a few days later. This service testing will operate until at least February.

No timetables have been given, but presumably these will be running on the fast "Belle" diagrams?

Are they not standard class only though? I thought they were specifically designed to be used on 10 car metro services?

Good point... in that case they'll probably be put on the stopping services rather than the "Belles" won't they? ( On the other hand as the 1st class seats on 377s are the same as the standard class seats it shouldn't be too difficult to have the end areas temporarily marked as 1st class should it? Plus - putting them on the stoppers might even annoy more passengers compared to the fast ones if there is no 1st class? )

That's if they are going to Brighton in the first place - note that I said there are posts on gen groups suggesting - that is not quite the same as saying it will happen is it?

They could presumably run them paired up with either a three or four car unit that has First of course...

No it shouldn't, but installing plug sockets might!

They are to be diagrammed to do Victoria - Brighton services.

I'd be surprised if they are in service yet as neither Southern drivers nor fitter have been trained in them yet. More likely its for testing purposes.

I doubt the rumour as 607 has only just been delivered, not to mention no-one I'd spoken to last week knew anything them being in service, however the method of bringing them into service I've been told and this isn't it. Could be the original plan to have 7 diagrammed out and about has leaked.

I have heard that there is to be first class on these units but when ordered they were supposed to be standard only. However things can change.

Fitting First Class to the 377/6s would hardly be a big job, it would just mean partition doors for the end section and antimacassars. It's only the 377/4s onwards that have plug sockets, so they wouldn't even be essential. Like the 377/3s are currently, they are going to be diagrammed for longer distance work at the weekends, to balance out the mileage, which would otherwise be very low compared to other 377 units as they'll spend most their time pottering around London.

Lol maybe the drivers will at least have the comfort of a brand new train to take away from the tedium of the two jobs they are working.

They already have the doors installed.

I've heard that they will be used on Brighton - Vic jobs on a sunday, replacing the 3 car units, so instead of 4x3 will be 2x5

That and the DSD.

Good to see they took note of all the problem with the 377s when they first came out then! There have always been complaints from drivers about the weight if the pedal and seat design. A few drivers lost their jobs over it as back problems linked with 377s meant they could no longer drive the units. Infact FCC have drivers who can only work 319s due to back problems.

not true at all I'm afraid, all fcc TL drivers sign and drive 377's.
