How many HSTs do EMT actually need?
As there is little (no?) 125mph running on the Midland Main Line then surely the answer is none? Could the HST services not replaced by LHCS at 110/100 mph?

They've kind of been a permanent feature of the MML for almost thirty years now though. You honestly think that there is sufficient loco hauled stock, and for that matter, locos to haul it, available that could, as Ainsworth74 says, match the HSTs in terms of acceleration, timings and capacity? Why change a good working arrangement? As there is little (no?) 125mph running on the Midland Main Line then surely the answer is none? Could the HST services not replaced by LHCS at 110/100 mph?
The line is currently being upgraded to allow sections of 125mph running though, I believe. The only bit of 125 that EMT services use is Doncaster to York (and that's only once a week), plus Derby to Burton when they used to send some services over that way.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware that Derby to Burton has 125 mph running.
Good to have it working where it should be on the ECML & not rusting by some shed.
Just checked Abrail again and several Mark 3 loco hauled coaches still have "to be refurbished for East Coast" written next to them.
Does anyone know what is happening to them? Will they be converted into HST trailers or are East Coast forming a loco hauled train from them?
Again with an EMT HST....
