I wish to apologise to you all, for lying to you all.

I lied about Seeing a London Midland HST which does NOT exist, this was me being stupid, and i'm sorry for all the people who went out there way to read it.

I also lied about my occupation I said I worked in Train Dispatch to numerous people, where as I actually work in a Newsagent by the station, Due to my health ( Being Epileptic )

I hope you can all forgive me :)

Well, the hardest part is coming out and saying it, so well done for that.

I've not been offended by anything you've ppsted but I guess you've learnt a harsh lesson.

I don't think anyone would be offended, just very annoyed.

Lying is pointless - it doesn't get you anywhere or gain you anything.

Anyway, well done for coming out and saying it and let's let bygones be bygones and move on.

I am slightly disappointed that a London Midland HST doesn't exist - They'd look quite nice in LM Colours..

Or is that just me?

Thank you for your apology and whilst the thread in question didn't annoy me, impersonating rail staff I do find very disagreeable. However it takes a lot to apologise in public like this so all is forgiven and lets move on.

I did have my doubts that you worked on the railway, some of your posts in fares and ticketing just didn't add up! But as others have said, well done for fronting up about it!

takes a big man to admit to that, im sure that all concerned will find it in thier hearts to forgive you. All the guys and gals on here are a good bunch. Hope you take some lessons away from this though and remember that honesty is always the best policy. All the best my friend.

Its not paranioa!
I had similar thoughts - you wouldn't even get as far as failing an O-level in Philosophy (and probably Logic too) without having to address the conundrum of the 2 advisors (one who tells the truth and one who lies) and having to consider if there is any question you could ask them both that would give you confidence in where the truth lay.
Truth can be a very illusionary quality!

In this instance, I'm absolutely confident that the OP is quite sincere.
There is no known test of truth which involves sincerity.
How you, asylumxl, or anyone else (including myself), applies the test of truth-telling to other people remains a process which doubtlessly is a matter of personal trust and is NOT a matter of certainty.
This is exactly the foundation of the rules and regulations which apply to the railways - a very thorough, tested, reviewed and maintained set of rules which make no assumptions about truth. They are based on physical events (signals, sounders, flags, circuits etc. etc.) which add up to a comprehensive surety of safe movements of traffic and persons.

I'm struggling to see where, in the Railway's very comprehensive and long-standing protocols, there is any consideration of an individual to make a self-assessment of their own truthfulness.
Its NOT paranoia!

To be honest, I don't really think I'll believe much he says again, apology or not, to be honest if you lie about LM owning LHS, I'm really not interested what he says, not that I believed much of it in the first place... Like thefab444 says, I don't believe this was domne off hois own back, I believe some superiors may have recommended it, apologies if I'm incorrect.

Still, nice to know that someone else on here is having to go through the tedious boredom that Mod takes on ;) :D

I don't think it really matters. It's down to the individual to decide for themselves the veracity of any post on any forums, and who can possibly know much about the poster unless they they actually know the person in question?

As I doubted many of the OP's posts in any case, I will continue to read all the threads I'm interested in and take each and every post on its merits!

Indeed, a very astute observation.

Me? If their lips are moving I assume they're lying.

In much the same way that I assume that every other motorist has had a full-frontal lobotomy and treat them accordingly........it's served me well in my 30 years of accident-free motoring (18 of those years covering 60,000 miles per annum).

Each to his own........my wife calls me cynical (well, she chucks a couple of colourful adjectives in as well). :D

No offence to the OP, but he was a pretty poor liar and his story unravelled rather quickly, so it should be rather easy to spot if he starts lying again in the future. :p

I've got no hard feeling towards the OP. I respect him for having the guts to come back and apologise.

Kudos for having the balls to own up and I have no reason to doubt the sincerity, but I have to say I am more interested in the reasons for the porkies in the first place.

Me too.

Always tempted to come out with the "bigger man" line in support of the confession but the bigger man wouldn't have done it in the first place.

Very disappointing. Sometimes lies can be harmless, however, hoping that everyone would realise that the LM story was a load of rubbish, what if someone fell for it and travelled out of their way at short notice and great expense to see the phantom loco and stock?

I believe that Bernie Taupin wrote that sorry seems to be the hardest word, personally I believe Aesop:

Aesop said:
Even when liars tell the truth, they are never believed. The liar will lie once, twice, and then perish when he tells the truth.

It's easy to "apologise" from behind a keyboard... personally I like to look people in the eye when they apologise and get all Cal Lightman on them

I mean why come on a Railway forum such as this which is full of experts and enthusiasts alike and make a ridiculous claim like the OP did? Makes no sense at all...

It's even easier not to. The OP has given us details to pretty much narrow down exactly who he is IN PERSON, not as a forum ID. So, why bother doing so for an insencere apology, or one that is easy to not make.

Far too many cynics and judges on here, I just hope we can't search through the forums and find anything you've said that is incorrect/wildly inaccurate. After all, we'd be hypocritical to not call you a liar, wouldn't we?

If you come across a post from me where I claim to have seen a London Midland Class 90 rake that doesn't really exist, then I'll agree with you but I doubt I'd have been that foolish to make such a claim given the amount of expertise on the forum.

And feel free to search through my posts for anything you need clarifying... you can either do it via a thread or via PM - makes no odds to me.

It's more what I would have expected on the morning of April 1st, but he has apologised hasn't he?

Like I said to you guys, I am sorry and I do regret making the false claim as it has not done me any favours, but if anyone does want an apology in real life I will be at the meet on April 2nd 2011 so I will be able to give a face to face apology there – If that is what it takes.

Just out of pure interest, what was it all about? A prank that got out of hand? Or just to get a reaction out of people? Just interested what was going on in the old "shell like" when you made those posts because surely you realised there would be people in the know who post on here?
