Looks like 150240 is the next one to go to Crewe for PRM. Heading there after arriving on 1K76 from Chester
thanks for the info!Looks like 150240 is the next one to go to Crewe for PRM. Heading there after arriving on 1K76 from Chester
Substitute 'repairs' for 'PRM modifications' and 'franchise mandated refurbishment' (in the case of the 175s)The Crewe to Chester shuttle is now bustituted due to "More trains than usual under repairs at the same time". This is starting to resemble a broken record now and heading towards being the norm rather than unusual.
Article from Wales online today :

I'm tapping on it. I like reading those articlesDon't even bother clicking on it.
That site would complain and pot stir regardless of what happens.
They also caption a photo with "four sets of locomotive-pulled carriages". That's technically true, if you count the existing MkIII sets in North Wales, but not particularly relevant to the Valley Lines of the article title...There's a typo, it'll just be the two 37's with four coaches each. Not sure where they've got seven from

It is, however, a broadly neutral-to-positive article, definitely not a hatchet job.

I think the 7 out of eight morning peak trains into Cardiff and 8 out in the evening peak refers to the fact that they intend to run 4-car sets at those times on all four core valley routes - to/from Rhymney, Merthyr, Aberdare and Treherbert. Only the Rhymney services will be covered by the two 4-car loco-hauled services, the remainder will be 2 x pacer, 2 x 150 or pacer +142. I agree the caption about 4 lots of loco hauled carriages is not applicable to the valley lines - there will only be 2 sets used there. There's a typo, it'll just be the two 37's with four coaches each. Two on Cardiff Rhymney, Gerald, and one set Manchester -North Wales, I make it four not five? (or is there one spare?)Should be five counting Gerald when he runs

BTW looking at TFWrail website today it seems either Gerald is not running the late afternoon "express" to Holyhead or he is down to 3 carriages - minus first class, no hot food. Alternative is that the service today is formed of a 3-car 175?
Just be grateful you're not having to ride on it all the way!I just seen 150285 doing the 09.28 from Milford haven to Manchester Piccadilly 1W11 at Llanelli on the 23.06.19

For the record, there was also a 150 on yesterday's 1D38 - 1336 Manchester Airport-Llandudno.
I assume it stayed on the diagram all day. Sorry I didn't get the number as I only saw it from a distance.
Yes im glad i wasn't on it. Well at least man picc to Llandudno is shorter journey and 150285 is a upgraded 150Just be grateful you're not having to ride on it all the way!

i think they should too use more loco hauled trains. 175s are knackered 150s work much harder good old 150sShocking using 150s on such long journeys.
Funny if Pacers ever turned up though!
I think TfW should be using the loco hauled sets on the Marches instead.
Put the 150s back on the Valleys.
An obvious shortage of the useless 175s
again it seems.
Not as shocking as it would be to cancel the service. And as has been pointed out, at least it's a refurbished set that's fully accessible and has WiFi and power sockets.Shocking using 150s on such long journeys.

Not possible West of Cardiff or North of Crewe for traction knowledge reasons, and lack of available stock. So never going to happen.I think TfW should be using the loco hauled sets on the Marches instead.

Yeah 150s has been doing some Manchester runs and 158s also 153s on Sundays on the weekend they like to check on 175s in thingsNot as shocking as it would be to cancel the service. And as has been pointed out, at least it's a refurbished set that's fully accessible and has WiFi and power sockets.
Not possible North of Craven Arms for traction clearance reasons, or North of Crewe for traction knowledge reasons. So never going to happen.

They will be doing so, just as soon as replacement stock is available.
175s are not useless. They are short of units across all fleets, mostly because of units getting PRM mods.. And in any case, 150s have been booked traction on this route on Sundays for years.

Because the four bodies involved (DfT, Welsh Government, ROSCOs, and Arriva Trains Wales) were all insisting that the others should be paying for it.If it was known years ago this work had to be done within the timeline set by those who made up this rule as law! Then why have mods started so late that it looks impossible to meet that deadline!
