I also did the entire run from Barking to Hammersmith, was gutted to find that 211 was S7 after I deliberately came down in the morning peak to try and get a run on it before heading over to Barking!

I would love it if a set was preserved in running condition, as they're my favourite sub-surface stock, but I'm afraid I can't see it happening, I don't think there's the space for one.

From what the driver told me the other day, one set will be kept and done up to form a heritage train. No idea how true it is, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Acton depot will need expanding soon to fit all the trains in

The Bakerloo Line will be keeping its 'heritage' fleet for the next 20 years :)

Does anyone know when the last day of C stock on the District Line will be? I know half of the District diagrams are going over to S7 by the end of the month, just wondering when the other four will go over to S7.

No precise date yet, originally intended to be 18 May but will probably be later.

Thank You :)

So what is happening in the meantime then? (March/April) Will the rate of deliveries slow down or are D-stock drivers being trained on them?

Deliveries are still coming 1 per-week.
Still around 16 at the Test Track. No news if deliveries will slow.
Earl's Court drivers are 98% complete S7 trained, Acton Town are only starting on 23/2, with Barking and Upminster following later in the year.

Ironically there was no S7 delivery this week.

Thanks for that, very informative.

Just thought I'd note that at least two trains of S7 stock appeared on the Wimbleware service for the first time today - or at least the first time I've seen them. Trains of C stock were parked in the sidings at Parson's Green and the triangle, where they aren't normally during service. I didn't get any numbers down though.

First time you've seen them; there have been two Wimbleware S7 diagrams for about 1½ weeks now.

I do Fulham Broadway to Victoria every evening and I still haven't seen one in active service yet. probably just a function of my timing. However I did have a journey in January on a S7 operating to Tower Hill.

Ah.... It seems I have just killed another one; I had 5565 + 5570 + 5598 for haulage on Saturday afternoon; was that the rake's final day in service?

(I was driving it until 1256 Earl's Court WB on Saturday! although i did report that no rheostatic brake was working on 5565 which hopefully didn't hasten it's demise?)
It was out on T73 yesterday until 1455 Edgware Rd then as per TTN109/14 went empty onto Moorgate then to Neasden.

Is any maintenance being carried out to the remaining C Stocks now or is it just 'if it fails it's gone' kind of thing now?

Routine maintenance is still being carried out, but if when on maintenance a large repair is needed then the train will be withdrawn.
If a train fails in service then the costs of the repairs will be worked out and if those costs are too high then the train will be withdrawn.

It used to be that there was a cost limit on repairs and if the costs of the repairs are higher than the limit then its scrap time.
If the costs of the repairs are lower than the limit then the train will be repaired.
As you get closer to 'the end' the repair limits are lowered until they are effectively zero, the last trains are then run until they (are likely to) fail or the agreed last day is reached.

Nowadays I think with everything on a train having a service life then once an expensive bit reaches the end of its service life then the train is withdrawn, this is why perfectly serviceable (to our eyes) trains are withdrawn and scrapped.

This morning only one diagram ( 075 ) was C Stock on the Wimblewares, formed of 5549 + 5555 + 5522.

Diagram 076 was not operating. The other six were all S Stock, and apparently there are indeed now only the two C Stock diagrams ( 075 + 076 )remaining.
