Just had my rejection email too. Said I wasn't successful for this years intake but due to my strong performance they will offer me first refusal on the 2018 depot driver vacancies. Will have to weigh that one up when the offer arrives. Disappointed but a good experience and puts me in a strong position for future vacancies with other TOC's!

Good luck to those still waiting to hear!

Asked and received some feedback relating to my interview, so it's clear I have areas to improve if I RT the opportunity again.

"Your overall score for the interview was 75%. They were some areas were you performed extremely well and achieved the maximum amount of points for those questions (4). This related to your responses around Flexibility in the work place, Communication and Decision Making and Judgement. However there were some areas where you scored considerably lower and this was in relation to your responses under Self-Motivation, Safety Focus, and Team Work and Collaborative working (2).

If taking the scores purely into account this would have had you ranking well outside of the top 7 candidates"

Hi Guys,
Had my rejection letter to, but told I'm considered for the 2018 course for depot drivers at Banbury. I was on hold for this job anyway from last year.
I take it they are not doing a holding pool for trainee drivers next year then. Email was very confusing talking about dates etc.
Yes I would of had to relocate too.

50/50 for me. no for this year but;

"I am pleased to confirm that we would like to retain your details for the 2018 intake as we felt that you gave a very strong account of yourself within the interview process overall.
Whilst this may not have been your desired preference you would be given first option to take up a place when the next school starts as we do not envisage recruiting externally next year given the number of talented candidates we met this year"

Djsmith200 you been put on the Banbury depot driver pool or for trainee drivers? Be interesting if they're getting two pools going. I imagine those yet to hear will do so tomorrow.

Well congratulations then fingers crossed it all comes good for you. Filling 2 talent pools and a course I think they probabaly realised they went a bit overboard with interviews for this intake.

CR claim to want " the best of the best" yet send me a rejection letter consisting of bad grammar and poor syntax lol.

Oh yes, apparently we applied for a "Tour Operating Company"...

Look on the bright side mate. At least we passed GTR"s DMI ( which I thought was tougher) and we are still in their "talent pool". ;)

Just proves the point you can be in the top 10 % with CR ( whoop de doo . I get a warm and fuzzy feeling just thinking about how 'special" I am to be in the top 10% who can't land a job...or can pass everything required with GTR) and still not get in - makes feel even more 'special':)

But don't forget... your OPC assessment is valid for 5 years and if you fancy working in another industry, other Tour Operating Companies will accept them as part of the application process. It kinda makes it all worthwhile doesn't it? :)

Yes you read it right. GTR advertised for specific vacancies ( Beford in my case) , passed everything then got told I was in a talent pool awaiting a suitable vacancy.
Two years later after getting fobbed off with the same " we'll let you know when we can offer you a course" I went to their HR director to learn they were not recruiting for Bedford after all and I was unlikely to be offered any other depots as I live outside the commutable distance.

Nice of them to tell me. Only took them two years...

But that's not all. My trainee train driver journey started the year before when DBSchenker advertised. I passed my assessments but the DBS pulled the plug on recruitment due to the downturn in coal. So I transferred my assessment to GTR and then CR only to end up no further forward than this time three years ago.
Passed everything first time and to enhanced standards all for nothing.

Life sucks doesn't it?

I'm in a very similar position myself. Opportunities for trainee drivers over the next few years will be very minimal with, as you mentioned, the decline in freight meaning literally hundreds of qualified drivers are available for the tocs. To have missed out again does feel like too many chances are slipping by.

That isn't the case anymore. LM are allegedly looking at advertising again soon as they aren't getting anywhere near the number of ex-freight that they first thought they would be.

They didn't mention any dates for 2018 when I asked. But 2017 training would be about September or October giving anyone who has to give a months notice from their old jobs chance to hand it in.

I hope you guys who have already had the bad news are starting to get your head around it, it's a horrible situation, just never ever give up!

I take it I'm not the only one still completely in the dark having heard nothing up to now?

Really? This sounds promising.

ah I see do you live bedford I am in bedford mate I applied for great northern - south routes I think there are depots at hitchin, cambridge and peterborough. Hitchin is 30 mins roughly peterborough 45 to 50 and cambridge 55 to an hour I would have thought you could do them buddy

No mate, I'm 30 mins north of Bedford in Northants, too far away from all the other depots that you mention according to GTR. In fact it was when GTR suggested I move to cricklewood to "improve my chances" was the moment I lost any interest in working for them as a company.
Anyway this is all documented in the GTR thread and as this is a ChilternRail thread I don't want to hijack it.
