Was sat at Brighton all shiny when I rolled in.
Shocked that there's no decent FC seats on a "Premium Service".
Just noticed the livery on these is actually the same as the DLR minus vinyls. Also why does the CIS in the second video show "www.southernrailway.com" - they're not fooling anyone!![]()
.... Shocked these 387/2s do not resemble the 379 interior as they seem to have a pretty good interior
Would have made sense for the 379s to have had an add on for gatwick express but. I guess the build requirements were not in line
Is there an official name for these 387 style seats?
I saw all the comments about the poor seating, assuming that they were going to be akin to the seating in 172s etc.; having seen the video linked previously, I didn't quite expect to see seats that resembled propped up sheets of chipboard!![]()
Yes they do seem to be taking the P*** as far as first class is concerned although personally I would get rid of First on fairly short Lomdon Commuter/Airport runs anyway, but if your going to have it would certainly expect better seats than standard. In fact I would only pay for first if it was 2+1 seating.

Regarding First Class and Southeastern placing it in the middle will southern be looking into doing the same?
.
Anyway sorry that was off topic ...

Not sure why you would be shocked as these are these are the standard seats that Bombardier have been using on 387's and recent 377's so I wouldn't have expected anything different unless perhaps the customer had insisted otherwise but as previous trains were obtained by Southern that would seem unlikely, but I would have expected better 1st Class seats.
Yeah, for GatEx I would have expected 2+1 First Class. I certainly see no reason for paying for it if it's 2+2; these aren't exactly overcrowded commuter services.
I've heard them nicknamed Graveboards because of their shape
Surely it was "ironing boards"?A description that annoys me a lot
I'm travelling into London from Luton airport parkway later this week.
I've never even seen a class 387, so would really like to get my first ride on one as well.
I've been looking at the timetables. Am I right in thinking my best bet would be a Brighton service?
Is there a route through Luton that is exclusively 387 operated? Or will it be potluck?
Thanks
PS - I'll suffer the seats![]()
Sadly I can't find any images or reference to it online, but ironically can remember at privatisation, a concept of a Three Class train for the Gatwick Express, with 1+1 big armchair seating in the most premier class.
Now it's, "Hard seat or standing Sir?"
Or it would be if there was actually an on board attendant.
In China, they quite often literally translate the classes as 'Hard seat' and 'Soft seat'.
I'm a bit confused as with WiFi and power sockets throughout these trains, there is no difference whatsoever in First class. Could they be discontinuing it?
I was sure I've read somewhere that they were going for a special interior for these new gatex's, but when I saw one today at Brighton all I could think was, first class punters will not be happy, going from nice reclining seats to iron boards with an ill fitting headrest cover. The whole thing screams quality.![]()
The seats are made by Fainsa (spain), but having browsed through their catalogue, I can't find the model name. I've heard them nicknamed Graveboards because of their shape, but Ian Walmsley simply refers to them as 'Ubiquitous Fainsa seats' in his recent article about the 230s. I think that referring to them as Fainsa seats will probably suffice for now until Class377/5 comes here and tells us their name, product code, weight rating, and countless other trivias!
:P
What do mean by that?
