Class 387

I've just passed a pair of 387s (5Z88) sat in p4 at Langley, and 57310 appears to be inching up to them. Have they failed?

Edit: they appear to have made their way back to mai now, maybe I was a bit hasty and they haven't actually failed. The 57 looks to be on standby in Langley loop now, showing as 0Z87. Rescue training maybe?

The 57 is on standby, the 387s are doing Hayes - Maidenhead all stations test running. There aren't any coupling tests going on - indeed while the 5Zxx was 16L it didn't lose any time at Langley and was only booked to stop for a standard station dwell time.

Ah ok thanks, I must have misread its position then. It looked fairly close.
I see the numbers are building up at NP again, think I saw 4 in total as I passed?

Problem is, with the May timetable changes occuring next Monday, they need a decent amount of 387's on the London side of Maidenhead to ensure they can cover all the changes occuring next week. As West Ealing can only accomodate a certain number, the most I've seen is four 4 car sets, they need a decent number. Now they can't use the Maidenhead carriage sidings for storage yet, the only other place is North Pole, and yet again, pay Hitachi. I think storing them in Maidenhead is a good idea, I'm sure TfL would be more than happy for it to be used whilst the 345's are ages away. It would only be temporary anyway, until the wires are finished later this year.

The Maidenhead Stabling Lines will be used for 387 stabling from this Sunday.

So it's all completed, tested, energised and signed off then? They didn't hang about with that, it looked nowhere near done a few weeks back!

(it was looking good yesterday when I passed, with all the nice lighting posts etc.)
I didn't note any CET facilities, which I believe someone already said emptying of the Aventra tanks will be done elsewhere, possibly ooc?

387150 and 151 just passed me at Kensington olympia, heading south. Mileage accumulation testing on BML I assume.

Well, you say that, but I've heard murmours already that a retro-fit is being considered a possibility on the 707s, and they're still in mid-build! Although I think that'll fall over now that MTR has announced its intention to buy new trains (with toilets) instead.

I don't think that was ever anything more than a rumour though. And not really relevant to Crossrail...?

Ah fair enough. Either way, there doesn't seem to be any indication that TfL have changed their mind about no toilets on Crossrail

OK. So the longest journey when the full crossrail timetable is up will be Reading to Shenfield I guess, estimated by xr to be 101 min. Long time with no toilet! ;)

Although who would be crazy enough to do it end to end?

Anyhow back on the topic on 387s, it be a nice touch from Great Northern to name 387124 after one of their drivers who passed away

But how likely is it that anyone travels the entire route on a Crossrail train?

I think passengers from Shenfield to Reading are more likely to take a GA service to London, traverse London by Tube or Crossrail, and continue their journey towards Reading by GWR.

Given the likely Crossrail timetable Shenfield - Reading will probably require a change so you could just use the toilets on the central area Crossrail station platforms that were designed into the stations as an alternative to toilets on trains ;)

I like the way some tocs say you have the option to stop off and go to the toilet if there isn't one on their train, and then wait for the next one, making the assumption everyone's got plenty of time to do that! I believe southern has it on their website somewhere for one.

Anyway this probably isn't the right thread for this, sorry I'll shut up now.

When class 376s were introduced on Southeastern metro 10 years ago they said stations would have toilets to use.

You can guess what happened - many closed permanently or seemed to have an out of order sign all day, every day, and some were installed outside gatelines

It shouldn't be considered unexpected though, conversion of these services to EMU from the May timetable change is what was applied for in a track access application in September last year.

Although that was a little while before you joined the forums I think it has been fairly well discussed over the intervening period.
