They're two entirely different companies now, they wouldn't accept it.

Says nothing about FC upgrades in there either.

Arriva Cross Country have to accept all valid "Virgin Trains Cross Country" vouchers issued on or before 09 December 2007 and valid until 30 November 2008
If they do not, then contact ATOC

Weekend Upgrades with Arriva Cross Country
That site is rubbish. They are claiming that you cannot break your journey with a Standard/First/Cheap Day Return!!! :o

I was once told by a member of station staff at Wolverhampton that "You're not supposed to have a break of journey unless it's a Standard or First Open ticket. But nobody's going to stop you..."

Last time i read about returns...
Its said you cant break it on out journey , but on the return journey you can :-?
Talk about confusing

And why cant you anyway?
You've got a ticket for A to B - what's saying you cant go A to B with a short stop at C...

Well, as posted above, Advantix states that a break on the outward or return is fine. Strange how there seems to be no wrong or right answer...

It's only on certain tickets to stop people buying tickets for a longer journey which are actually cheaper.

Say you were going from Euston on the 0846, a Saver Return at £102.90 would be valid if you were travelling to Glasgow. But, if you were travelling to Carlisle (where the 0846 also stops - before Glasgow), a Saver Return would not be valid, the only walk up ticket being valid a £247 Open Return. Thus, customers to Carlisle *could* buy the Saver to save money, but as you can't break journey on the outward portion of a saver, they could not, and would instead have to buy the more costly Open Return.

You could buy to Gretna! :!:

Oh, and you can still get off at Carlisle. You aren't breaking your journey unless, and until, you leave railway premises. In theory, the only way you can be caught is if there is a barrier check, even then you can say you are going to use station facilities.

Anyone boarding at, say, Leeds on a NXEC or EMT service at peak time, on a Gretna-London RTN portion would be perfectly entitled to use a SVR for that journey. But I would be willing to bet that many of the guards would not understand how ticket restrictions work and would falsely claim the ticket would need to be excessed. I'll have to try it some time...! Before someone says "but that's a West coast ticket", no it isn't, it's "Any Permitted" and via Leeds is shorter than via the WCML, so is valid before you even get into mapped routes..!
