Hopefully it will come a point where the racing is so close on track that DRS is either no longer required or at least reduced.

If I'm not mistaken, that was the intention for the new regs, but they kept a somewhat simplified DRS system for the time being "just in case".

It's good they've kept it though, as it did seem a bit of a struggle to overtake at certain points. It worked well at the T3-T4 straight.

An oil facility not too far from the Jeddah track was shelled today, F1 said they'd race but the drivers are now hosting a meeting, in which Domenicali and Brawn were in for about 2 hours. As of present, the drivers are still there, still dressed as they were at the end of FP2. If you want to see and follow the story, I advise Chris Medland's Twitter.

Or recognition that, if you hold a sports event in a country involved in a war, there's a non-zero chance that the war will have an effect on the sporting event.
I still don't get why we even went to Saudi in the first place. Oh yeah, money. We dropped Russia for starting a war, didn't race at Spa because it was raining, but we can race in a warzone. It comes across as hypocritical and nonsensical.
They have stayed calm and not risked losing their heads.
At the risk of being killed by a stray missile . Reminder that Russian separatists in Ukraine once confused a military transport with a 777, with deadly results. Mistakes can and do happen in war.

Worryingly large crash, with ominously long recovery for Mick Schumacher there. Yet another mark against this circuit, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a lot of negative noises after sunday..

Big enough impact to split the Haas in half again - miracle if they can get that car ready for tomorrow, even for Fittapaldi as reserve.

The lack of service road around the circuit is a further black mark - feels like at least 5 minutes between the ambulance setting off and arriving at the medical centre, ignoring the farcical F2 race earlier where a good half of the race was under Safety Car after a lap 2 incident and a further one on the restart. Serious questions need to be asked about how this was allowed to be homologated

The cars are designed to split along predefined planes in a big accident as part of the 2022 safety regs, to make sure that any breakage doesn't affect the fuel tank (as happened with Grosjean).

Personally I love this track - onboards are thrilling to watch, and it carries a bit of jeopardy, which is an inherent part of F1. Great to see Mick was ok though; it shows the safety systems are working well.

It's going to be interesting to see how Hamilton copes with being in a non winning car for the first time in a long long time. George's experiences with Williams will probably serve him well.

Jeopardy is fine, but this track crosses a line and seems to just be deliberately dangerous. Last year saw 2 F2 drivers hospitalised, one of which with a fracture, this year saw another F2 driver hospitalised in addition to Mick, and more car-breaking shunts than most other tracks (The F2 race today is short of another car beyond the one withdrawn for concussed driver, due to a crash in yesterday's race) - just compare & contrast Jeddah with the fast bits of Baku as a comparison of how it should be. We only have two event data points but it's hardly inspiring, and a number of drivers (continuing) to speak out

KMag is going well in the HAAS. Think where Nikita Mazepin would have been.
Seeing as he's not racing we are now sadly seeing Williams at the back.

All the Mercedes teams are struggling, one possibility i've read is the changes Mercedes made to their engine to accommodate their own chassis design has compromised their customers too.

IF one set of rumours are true, it might not be to many seasons before the Williams have a Audi in the back...

I'm almost certain Mazapin would have been behind Mick (and moaning because of it), but Mick has only had the one race with the crash so it will be interesting to see his form in Australia

It will be even more interesting to see his car. I hope they haven't done a "cut & shut"! :D:D

I won't give anything away, for any of you who haven't seen the race this morning - but it was an interesting one!
Watched it. As I also don't want to ruin anything , I won't say much. However I thought it was relatively boring today.

If I had to sum up the race I'm one word today it would be average. I've seen worse but it wasn't that interesting in my opinion.

It wasn't great, apart from the obvious demise of Verstoppen again, and the sight of Mercedes being much closer to Red Bull in race conditions.
