Sorry to keep pecking your head, was the call off HR or the relevant managers from the depots?

Sorry to barge in on this thread. I am relatively new to applying for trainee driver positions. I have applied for 2. One for freightliner where I completed all the tests successfully but come unstuck at the DM interview. Also, one for northern but didn't get to interview stage, I think because I may have been a tad for from depot n relocation wasn't an option. My question for anybody that can help, is it common to apply for a lot of positions before you are successful in getting a start or do a lot of people get on first time of trying. Any advice will be welcomed. Thank you and congratulations to all who are successful and I hope I can join you one day. Thank you

Never give up ! If you've passed the assessments you're well on the way. If you're having to relocate it puts you on the back foot for a start. You need to show you are seriously capable of actually moving for the job start date. Also despite what you read on many threads on here, consider depot driver/driver operator roles - not quite as glamorous initially but some tocs such as GA and EMT have defined career development from depot to mainline.

Thank you for this. I will not give up. That's not an option. There are plenty of depots near me it's just they haven't advertised as yet. I've sent speculative letters etc. I would certainly take a depot driver / driver operator role. I will keep trying and hope I succeed. Thank your for replying.

Sorry. In my earlier post I said relocation was not an option. I meant this from the TOC's position, not my own. I am more than willing to relocate. Thanks again

Congratulations to those who have got the job and welcome to FTPE.
Enjoy your training at "the hub" and go easy on your food allowance unless you want to put 3" on your waste.

Don't hold your breath for ftpe recruitment. I heard nothing for 3 months after driver managers interview. When I finally couldn't wait anymore and contacted them, it took 2 more weeks to reply with an answer that I was unsuccessful . That day of being told then became the date they worked the 6 months from for not being allowed to apply for similar roles, preventing me from applying at the next recruitment...

Enjoy your lives, xmas etc, don't wait for this company. Good luck if you are successful.

I would imagine the FTPE are pushing this recruitment drive as they are now recruiting a Driver Instructor.

"Good news: Due to future anticipated growth we’re bringing on board new trainee and qualified Drivers across the First TransPennine Express network. They’re set to help us transport 70,000 passengers around the region daily – but first they need expert training. That’s where you come in. As a Driver Instructor, you’ll create highly trained Drivers who are assets to the business and professionals through and through."

Hi all,
Unfortunately I have been told that the position has gone to someone else after attending the Driver Manager Interview. However, I have been informed that my application has been put on hold for the next 3-6 months should another position arise.
It's a mixed bag of emotions for me as I don't quite understand where I stand with this. Has anyone had any experience with being told this information and should i really keep my hopes up of acquiring a position in the future?

Any response is much appreciated

Hi adge86,

I can't offer much in the way of experience regarding this but I have received a similar email.

Which depot were you for, just out of interest?

Congratulations though, as I see it this means we didn't fail the interview and are considered to have the right skills etc to become drivers at some point.

My advice is to be patient.I was put on hold with FTPE and after nine months I got the call and I now drive for them.
FTPE I here are recruiting quite a lot of new drivers next year so hang on in there.

Was hoping there would be some movement next year on trainees. Sounds promising. I got through to DM interview back in May so wanting to go one better next time!

It shouldn't , it's just they have an " enhanced" pass rate , if you fail I don't think the data base will change your scores as it's just ftpe that wants the enhanced pass, your results will show the same

Out of interest if you retake the assessment again in order to get a higher pass and fail the whole assessment for whatever reason (national fail) and you are in the pool for another ToC who accepted your original pass what does that mean?

Also I thought somebody said no talent pools is waiting 3-6 months not the same?

id ring them to be honest, i did and was told that if you have passed and you then sit with another toc then THAT score supersedes the pass on the database

Hi b&e can you please tell me what was involved in the medical as I'm having one on the 30th. It would be an absolute disaster to fail at this stage. Cheers:|

Well after passing all the tests with FTPE in April this year for the previous driver vacancies and getting down to the last four at the interview stage, I didn't apply for the recent vacancies because I am currently in training with another TOC. Thank you FTPE :)

Good luck to all those that have passed. It's a hard slog, lots and lots and lots to learn, but truly worth it.

I've heard nothing yet.. They forgot to get me to fill out these two information sheets at the medical and sent them out to me Monday evening and I reposted Tuesday so expected a delayed response on mine.

Is the supposed start date the 12th January? It's leaving it fine if it is, the doc said he would pass me to drive but still haven't heard anything official.

I think we're all still waiting I'm afraid. At least we're all in the same boat.

Quick update for those waiting to hear off medical.. Had a phone call off Steve this morning regarding starting the 12th.. I said that's fine but I haven't heard anything off medical and I don't think anyone else has? He said he would chase it up. I emailed HR myself asking if there was any update and they got back informing me I'm fit for work, had no other info yet regarding times locations etc though, hopefully all get an email today or tomorrow explaining.

I've had nothing either. Course starts in less than two weeks!

Haha sounds familiar I'm still waiting for my course joining instructions and been driving for them for two years.

It will all come together a couple of days before the course is due to start, don't expect anything before that. Got to say they are really good once you start though.
