I took the 1810 from Nuneaton - Crewe, (1710 from Euston) was formed on of 5 carriages and customers were sitting in the toilet by 1st Class & on the floor of 1st class.
I and a good many other people loathe the term customer instead of passenger which deviates from normally used language. It may be technically correct but when you hear announcements it just doesn't seem right and makes me cringe on hearing language tinkering. If you saw a Passenger train, you wouldn't refer to it as a customer's train. Sorry to have a rant about this but I have very strong feelings on altering what is normally used language.

The only part of the country todays weather has not effected is South Wales and Far South West.

Even the southern counties had trouble with the extra leaves and rain making rail conditions horrendous.
You're right regarding the leaves, just noticed there have been severe delays on the South Devon banks and Cornwall this evening, but due to slippery rails rather than trees blocking the line. Hopefully this latest weather will have removed the last of the leaves from the trees.

We are now into a nationwide impact of a storm :P Rail wise anyway.

That's platform 3a by my reckoning?

I was told platform 1 collapsing on to the line but I reckon it's to be taken with council levels of rocksalt rather than the traditional pinch!

heard several times yesterday that part of the room had fallen onto the tracks, not seen any photo of this. Streets around the nearby shopping centre were closed yesterday due to the fear of signs falling off it though ...

the 0700 to Norwich was indeed 2x 3 car 170s, as was the 0755, which had the Breckland unit, not the 0700!

Also seen a photo of Lowestoft with the water past the axles on a 153...

Better not tell you that I was welcomed as a 'guest' on a journey back from York recently :(

Thanks for putting me right - I realised later it was the 07.55 I saw with the Breckland unit, but didn't have a chance to correct it.

The National Log made interesting reading - apart from flying ballast and 40 ft waves breaking over the tracks on the North Wales coast (with around 6 breaches to the formation) - the Blaenau line driver laconically reported caravans and fishing boats on the tracks......

Reminiscent of 1987 with cockle sheds and boats on the route at Leigh on Sea (+ many other "trespasses" ..

  • ECML80mph blanket speed restriction on ECML lifted south of Newcastle but timetabled services now need to wait at stations to wait for time.

Trains were only running at 50mph south of Newcastle. Might explain why trains did not keep to the emergency timetable even when there were no further problems, if emergency timetable was based on 80 mph.

Could you share said photo?

I don't know about past the axles but:

And it's still trapped at Lowestoft because:

Well, I‘ve just discovered a sodding great hole in my roof, so I can empathise with Network Rail.

From NRE

Severe winds and storms hit the parts of England and Scotland on Thursday 5 December 2013 resulting in widespread disruption to the rail network.

High tides and the tidal surges in the North Sea, are causing problems in various low lying areas.

No services are running on the following routes until at least Wednesday 11 December:

Norwich to Lowestoft
Beccles to Lowestoft

Buses are running between Beccles, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth (for trains to Norwich)

A 2 hourly train service will run between Ipswich and Beccles.

A replacement bus service will be in operation between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Trains are running as normal from Norwich to Great Yarmouth

Hopefully it'll be sorted by the 20th when I come home.
