And I was the one nattering with said Senior Conductor and various members of train crew.

Bosch, you need to tell the trolley dollies catering staff, I'm fat enough already  They have no need to try and force lots of beers and snacks down my throat!!!!

Rich, you should have come and said hello, we don't bite ;)

ColOrd, if things had gone to plan, then there would have been a group of us on the 1650, but Yorkie decided he wanted a few more trips on the ELL ....

He didnt really 'decide' to have a few more trips, it just took too long for us to all meet up after splitting up, meaning it was too late to get the GC. Ah well, hopefully there'll be plenty more chances to do that ;)

Fair enough. Perhaps I should have said Spooooooooooooon to get recognised. Would look a bit funny at KGX though

Anyway, time to drag this back on topic ....

From what I've seen of GC so far (only had the one run), I'm very impressed. Customer service is excellent, and being able to buy tickets on board the train is very helpful.

The HST was immaculately turn out, and (just for VXCFan here), both power cars were in fine form.

Here's hoping to a lot more runs like Saturdays in the future. :D

Thinking Grand Union will be running anytime soon is somewhat optimistic. Read the Network Rail report on the issue.

Isn't it something of a miracle that GC have managed to run their one and only train at all, in the face of so much commercial interest by the TOCs in sustaining their own slice of the market? And its hardly cynical to wonder if the delays in getting the r-stock ready for service are unrelated.

I read NR's analysis as a desperate attempt to squeeze whatever additional capacity can be found out of a ridiculously overstretched and inconsistent network. (And could equally be used to vindicate a claim for serious investment in infrastructure?)

What amused me about the fake artwork was the timescale - a Timetable starting Dec 2010. That's no threat to the revenue of current operators for 3 whole years! Whereas the Sunderland route is, in its own small way, presenting a real challenge to NXEC and others right now. Which is why I'm so pleased that GC is up and running ( . . . just!).

Keep us posted you GC guys out there!

Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed that GC have got their service up and running and I'm extremely interested in a London to Huddersfield service which I'd be likely to use. It's just proposals come and go and I don't want to get too excited about this because I'm familiar with the NR issues which might cause problems. Of course GC isn't really a success until it's established itself a position within the market which takes more than just starting a service.

On 2nd of Jan, the saver restrictions are back in force on the ECML, so Savers are no longer valid on the two peak trains, does that mean this £15 supplement that has been rumoured is applicable to holders of Savers on these trains?

It's only 2 days away now yet nothing is on the website about this!

Supplement will be levied when the FULL service is launched IIRC, but don't quote me on that one!!

I see GC has updated their site and now have a thetrainline interface that sells their tickets.

Had a go on NXECs booking engine and sure enough it doesn't sell them... Not sure whether other TTL sites sell it, though.

Note to GC, get TTL to accept Solo cards!!!!
