Hello everyone, I've got my DMI for thameslink ashford depot next week, anyone had it yet? Or any tips for it?

I found this one the hardest of all the interviews as all of the questions I had got an answer for they did not ask me at all so really threw me. I walked out and 95% sure I had failed it, they then made me wait for almost 3 weeks before telling me I had passed.

I have now passed everything and start at Ashford mid July. Just be confident with your answers as if they sense you are not being truthful they will keep digging. Good luck.

I just wanted to say thanks to this forum for all your useful input. I was browsing round here while preparing for my assessments and the info floating around proved invaluable. From reading on how everyone's MMI went, I was sure after mine that I had completely fluffed the last question and was resigned to the fact that I'd failed. Crazily less than a week later I got the call saying I had passed, so now I'm just waiting for my medical before I get to start with Great Northern. Thanks all for the hints and tips and guidance that got me through it all, and good luck to everyone else!

I have an assesment at the end of the month. Can anyone give me a heads up on what to expect. I am only starting to study now, couldn't be helped:(

Just go over your practice material. Don't waste money or time on different software to help you with the assessment. To be honest, you can either do the various assessments or you can't.

I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine!

Hi Baz,
I live in flitwick so I am the same as you in location. I have my assessment on the 18th July.
From what I read they won't have much or nothing in Bedford, one guy travels to Cambridge from Bedfordshire.
I don't won't to think to far ahead as there is a long way to go, good luck for next week Baz.
It would be good to know how you get on next week fella.

Cheers

Hi all, seems GTR are working quickly with their recruitment, had my DMI on Tuesday found out I'd passed on the next day, onto the MMI in a couple of weeks, I believe will be a bit tougher. Anyone else had their interviews yet?

Yeah the DMI was very relaxed and more about whether they liked you I felt, but the MMI, I get the impression will be quite intense.

The mmi if they don't like some of your answers will try and guide you to the answer they want you to give them if that makes sense. Also they might make you change some of the answers that you gave but at least with me I was able to discuss the situation and see which answer would be most appropriate.

Good luck

Hi baz most of the questions were about explaining a time you did something, so for me an emergency situation was seeing a motorcyclist being knocked of the bike and explaining what I did, how I reacted keeping calm etc, also will need to think about the loan working part, I work 10 hrs a day by myself so again that was quite easy for me.

Whatever you do if you make something up for a question be very sure that you have all ready thought about every possible thing they could ask you about it, for instance they asked me if I had a dashcam and what type of motorbike it was, easy to answer if the answer is truthful not so easy making it up on the spot.

Any yes I did pass I start middle July

I was getting around 10 to 11 lines, the test paper I found a lot easier as its larger and bigger gaps in between.

I cannot stress enough how important the group Borden is, about 60% people fail it, did at my assessment any way. Take you time and if you are not sure about anything ask the instructor to clarify what they want, for instance I asked did it matter f you had to circle or put a line through the dots and which way round the line should be. A line is fine either way should be the answer.

Good luck

Ah I got to know/went to lunch with a guy from peterborough he stayed in the hotel overnight too mate. Right tips is hard as I kind of realised yesterday it almost certainly is a natural ability thing. I practised the dots like mad day before I was averaging 9 lines the trainability type things first was memory and you got a passage to read and then study for 5 minutes then got multiple choice answers on the text so for example say the text said

you are travelling on a road and the speed limit is 60 miles an hour
when coming upto a junction you will have markers that are white lines
on a black background marking 300 hundred yards then 200 yards then 100 yards.

its then taken away and all your notes etc and you are left with just the answer paper each answer has 4 choices and might say what was the speed limit a.20
b.35
c.60
d.50
Thats it you choose the right answer (hopefully) the text is more involved than that and longer ours was on glop I dont know if yours will be and I dont know if they ask different questions or change the different answers so say if on my test a was 60 maybe d will be 60 on your paper. I reckon they are done in such a way so no one can tell anyone else the answers and they dont tell you which you got right and which you got wrong or how many they either pass you or fail you mate
