A driver said they were nicer to drive compared with a standard size HST, rumour is first working will be 0600 from Penzance (not confirmed).

Yes, but the basic plan remains the same, there will be one trial diagram which will be seen to work satisfactorily before any more sets are delivered.

So if there are any issues, full introduction might be delayed then?

Just slight difference:-

1555 Newton Abbot terminates Plymouth and then forms 1755 Plymouth to Penzance, separate trains.

I notice there are now paths showing in RTT for ECS test runs between Penzance and Exeter for today, tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, but today's were cancelled

If 800/801 deliveries haven't commenced yet.
Where did the stock to form this set come from?
Did they withdraw a handful of HSTs when the electrification shuttles started?

Did they withdraw a handful of HSTs when the electrification shuttles started?

5-car 800s have been in passenger service with GWR since Sept/Oct 2017, with around 2 dozen now in passenger service (sets numbered up to around 800034 have been delivered, but a number of those are not in passenger service yet with GWR).

Doubled up 10-car formations have allowed for a number of GWR's HSTs to go off lease.

Whilst 5-car formations have replaced GWR's 180s, now transferred to GC, allowing for withdrawal of GC's HSTs, now transferred to EMT.

Although it seems that some booked 10-car 800 workings are running short-formed as 5-car, due to higher levels of repairs/failures than planned or allowed for.

But anyway, there was a schedule of HST replacement and withdrawal from GWR, and this is under way... to allow for door and PRM conversions for GWR short sets, Scotrail '7 cities', and XC.

The focus of conversion work at Wabtec Doncaster is now focussed on vehicles for Scotrail, apparently.

And driver training is under way at Scotrail, using power cars and stock released by GWR. And the first pair of ex-GWR power cars in Scotrail 7-cities livery have been delivered by Brush to Scotrail.

Off-lease ex-GWR HST trailer cars not required for conversion are going into store at Ely (via Leicester).

(All info gathered from assorted relevant threads on here)

(Whereas, introduction of 387 electric units has allowed for the cascade of a number of 166s from Reading to Bristol over the last several months, which in turn has allowed for the release of GWR's 150/1s required by Northern...)

The diagram I saw shows as a through working? But you're dead right!

As a point of pedantry, the XC door/PRM conversions have no connection with GWR - it is XC’s five existing sets that are being converted.

Quite so.. fully justified clarification there.. for which thanks... (I knew there'd likely be something ambiguous/misleading/confusing/wrong in there, and there it was.. :) )

It effectively came from GWR’s pool of spare vehicles, not by having to withdraw a set.

That might be the theory, but the reality is the spares pool was pushed too far and there have been short-formed HSTs consistently since then.

2242 Plymouth to Penzance does not run on Fridays, set empty to Laira after working 2018 Penzance to Plymouth.

No Saturday workings, Sundays just 1940 Plymouth to Penzance.
