It seems to be with me. I've got to cut down, so from the New Year will do so. My intention is to lurk from time to time to get gen, but in the interest of restoring some balance to my life I'm going to have to more or less give this up as my New Year's resolution. That and the other [non-railway] Internet Forums I frequent. :(

I'm going to have try and remember what I used to do before the Internet came along. I don't remember just sitting in a darkened room waiting for it to be invented, so life can't have been that empty.

Why do you have to cut down? If you have the time to be on here, then what's the problem?

I come on here and other forums when I have the time too. No time, don't come on here.

It only becomes a problem IMO, when you flag going out doing the things you enjoy to sit on here....

It was when I saw that I was the top poster over the last 28 days by a large margin and thought that I really am doing this too much and could do with cutting right down. I can't really have that much time to spare, so must be inadvertantly flagging opportunities to do other stuff. I enjoy it on here, but I have to say I think that I'm thinking about railways waaaaay too much at the moment, so some balance is needed.

I use to post a fair bit but I have cut down, the forums interesting but I also think the 'excitement' wears down after a while, and some threads go on a bit ot much when they've served there purpose. Plus I only seem to post on subjects I'm interested or need to now days. :)

I'm going to have try and remember what I used to do before the Internet came along. I don't remember just sitting in a darkened room waiting for it to be invented, so life can't have been that empty.

I used to do really pointless things like gardening; spend Sunday afternoons at B&Q buying plants, put them in the garden, waste time watering them and then watch the slugs have a feast. Anything left over would get attacked by the cat or die of heat / cold / drought or disease. Gave that up when the internet time sponge became easily available.

Be careful, with all the extra time on your hands, you could end up doing equally worthless things - be sure to spend your newly found free time wisely. Anyone got any good ideas?

I would say I post too much, except that this is the first time I've been on the site since Christmas Eve, and after today I won't be back until next week!

I usually only do the transport forums on Saturdays or Bank Holidays and occasionally Sundays. Today is the only day over Christmas that I have accessed them. I reckon I shall be back on the New Year Bank Holiday rather than New Year's Day itself.

I spend longer on Digital Spy, which I typically contribute to 3 times a week, although I know people who are on there much more than me!

I was disappointed when my circle of penfriends started to diminish last year owing to Facebook etc but I find these discussion forums make up for it. They even have the advantage that we can be more spontaneous than waiting until we owe someone interested a letter.

I usually find i come on here when

A) angry

B) need to argue*

though i must admit i do browse without being logged in for some helpful info.

*I now sound bad but you would be surprised how nice it is to argue for once with people who actually know what they are on about(within reason lol) and not get a face full of spit or a punch in the face

On the whole, yes. But I thought Christmas Day was alright. You had The One Ronnie, The Royle Family, Come Fly With Me, and the soaps were apparently good as well (if you're into that). Better than the stuff the last couple of years; at least it's mostly been new. Although I didn't watch it, the premise of this year's Dr. Who was poor IMO - we've seen hundreds of versions of "A Christmas Carol" on our screens over the past few weeks, and have little desire to see another thank you very much.

I find I post most around about April/May, when I'm supposed to be studying for my exams! Around about that time, I even find discussions about Southern Region EMUs interesting, despite never having seen one in my life!

I myself seem to be on the net 24/7, it is addictive.

Although I go through periods where I ask myself why? No real hobbies and interested in the railways because I work on voyagers

I'm currently experiencing a surfeit of Agetha Christie on the TV at the behest of my family so the Forum is a welcome source of relief.

Also suffering from a sore throat so it's less painful to type than to speak!

Hehehe! My biggest problem is that I post on here during lunch hour at work, and sometimes get too absorbed and then overrun. Wouldn't like to get sacked for this. It'd be hard to explain to the wife, who's already fairly down on my crankery which has skyrocketed in the last couple of years after 10+ years in the (relative) wilderness. Hard to see why she's moaning tho; the signs were there. When we got together at Uni in Northern Ireland 18 years ago I spent every weekend bashing GMs and DEMUs! Maybe she thought I'd grow out of it: she obviously is very ignorant of what motivates the true crank!

I spent far too much time on forums, definitely. Very helpful to have them there when you can't sleep (as I am enduring at the moment, got to be at work with tons of energy by 1200 <() for sure.

Reckon I spend most of my time on RailUK and countless other places when I'm not able to go out cranking. But would I change it? No. I've learnt a lot from forums over the years and always enjoy learning more/reading an interesting discussion.

I was on here most of the time until last week, but I bought a car last monday, so been out doing stuff instead. (off to the breaker's for parts today :D).

I tend to be here mostly at night or early in the morning, but I still probably show as online 24/7.

At the moment I am trying to wean myself of using the computer. I'd go online just to check my emails, look at BBC news, then migrate to Wikipedia, Facebook, or this fascinating website. Then I'd end up engrossed into looking at lots of random websites, and before I knew it I'd have spent 4-5 hours in front of the computer having achieved little!

Consequently, I'm trying to minimise my use of the internet, so I'm only online in the evenings at the moment.

Back on subject, I can't say forums rule my life but its nice to talk to other enthusiasts once and a while and there good to gather infomation too. :)

I was introduced to it by a random trip to Swansea High Street in the autumn of 2003 and watching an HST leave for London. Still no idea why I went there, but from that moment on I was hooked. Can't wait to get my chance to work in the industry, at any level. Although I might have to stop browsing forums as much!
