It does seem like some of these stories are now completely made up or MASSIVELY exaggerated. And I'm surprised papers are willing report things without stopping to ask a few questions of their own.

There is always a large element of "Grab your torch and pitchfork" about any story like this. Anybody criticising it is instantly labeled as "one of them" by the "We're doing it to protect the kiddies" brigade.

I always remember a teacher I know saying that they could have any amount of children who were dirty, hungry, neglected and subject to the most horrific mental abuse, and nobody would be interested, however the slightest hint of sex, and six different agencies would fight with each other over who would take charge.

Shall we hark back to the year 2000 and the matter of the "Sarah's Law" storyline espoused by the News Of the World, which, in the view of a certain female editor now under investigation, involved the splashing of both photographs and details of convictions of convicted sex offenders across the front page of an issue, then claiming that the newspaper would not be at fault if any repercussions leading from this would occur, despite prior warnings before publication by the police and related agencies warning them not to do this.

A fait accompli such as this is not something that can be retrospectively withdrawn, but the News of the World were well aware of this fact...but still chose to proceed.

It's not like they had to pick up the pieces though. They simply creamed the profit out of the sad situation. Utterly despicable, we give the Press freedom and this is what they choose to do with it! <(<(

The only time I've ever known the Press get their comeuppance where it hurts was the Sun after Hillsborough.

and as someone who has worked with children services (on departmental policy) in the past there is an element of truth in this, although I would not say the various agencies are uninterested in other areas of child protection, just that they are far more willing to offer their own resources rather than everyone else's if the issue contains an element of sexual abuse.

Or even Savile to spell his surname correctly :)

Is it actually "Savile" rather than "Saville" - I have seen both versions widely used !!

Some of these "allegations" are becoming a bit difficult to believe tbh.

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/n...ow-staff-dreaded-hospital-tours-16222796.html

If that really went on I cannot see why it wouldn't have come out much much sooner.

Haven't some of those who have alleged abuse indicated that they did mention it to someone (in authority) and were disbelieved? These women have been carrying this 'guilt' around with them for many years and only now do they feel that they can admit to it - it's well known that victims of abuse feel guilt.
I think that if there were any teenage girls on this forum they might be saying that it is not at all pleasant to be groped - and far worse - by a much older man.

If it was so well known that hospital staff were telling kids to pretend to be asleep how can it possibly not have come out sooner? It makes no sense.

IMO it would create a dangerous precedent if victims, especially of sexual offences, are prosecuted because they felt unable to report the crime to the police.

Indeed it would; but I am talking about those who know what someone was up to and keep quiet, not about the victims.

By prosecuting witnesses you discourage people from coming forward. A rather silly decision if you ever want to prosecute anybody!

It seems that lots of people were "reporting" this at a level they felt prudent ie supervisors at hospitals or teachers at homes etc, they appeared to meet with discouragement that in some cases bordered on threats.
So this idea that there was'nt a peep until he died is incorrect. I mean if the average vulnerable 14 year old in a home meets with ridicule and threats they are not going to take it any further.

Granted this story is a media feeding frenzy; but Mr Jimmy Saveloy is as guilty as f***.
He's got the classic paedo presentation, for a start all the charity work and eagerness to please is an attempt to absolve his behaviour. There is no redemption, any fool can regret yesterday.

I know you can actually buy it what I meant was very few people do

The Sun, which sells 3.3 million copies nationwide but only 12,000 in Liverpool, remains the subject of a boycott in Merseyside.

A 2005 reference so a bit old and from the Indi

Right next to the andrex?

Don't be silly - It's next to the Tesco Value bog roll. I almost forgot it's re-branded itself as Everyday value - hmm that sounds rather familiar. ;)

Classic paedo presentation? I wasn't aware there was one. Yes he did charity work, but so do thousands of others, it doesn't make them a danger to children. Eagerness to please? Bugger me, if that is one trait of a sex offender then i'm glad no one saw my crappy attempts at trying to please my ex husband/boss/parents etc...

I really do see what you mean, yes he was "odd" his love of shell suits was something i never understood. But, if every odd person was deemed a paedophile then this country and the world would be teeming with them.

Through work i have come into contact with sex offenders, and to be truthful every one is very, very different. No two are alike, and they are from every walks of life. I really couldn't fit them into a type or category and i certainly wouldn't be able to tell what they were just by looking at them.

However, there is no doubt that mr SAVILE (one L ;)) if he was guilty of these crimes, has got away with it, and i really wish that these allegations could have come to light while justice could have been done.

I feel for his victims (again if allegations are true) and i feel for Mr Saviles family, who frankly must be feeling humiliated and down right let down.

That's it I have now had enough of this unfounded witch hunt against those who are unable to defend themselves. <(

Apparently according to the Daily ' it's Armageddon day again' John Peel was having sexual relationship with a 15 year old

What's next Kermit abusing tadpoles whilst Sooty gropes Miss Piggy backstage of Children in Need?

Lets bring some sanity back to the media and report on the latest sighting of Lord Lucan and Elvis.

Judging by the article she must have been at least 15 years and nine months when she did (being as she'd passed 16 by the time she noticed). Three months older and it'd be a non-story. This is why I think that having a specific age cutoff for things like this is pointless and arbitrary, and it should be redefined as a question of abuse and so on (which there doesn't seem to be any of in this story).

If the Police are going to go after every bloke who once had sex with a 15 yr. old then they're going to need a few million extra cells.

They can go after me as well if they like, although he was a year older than me, he is also deceased so that should it in quite nicely here.

If your from a multi-national newspaper and want to negotiate a price please feel free to PM me. <D

What a turn of events.

A full apology from the BBC (and possible legal action for compensation from victims), the most surreal episode of Have I Got News For You and BBC Online using a new photo of Jimmy Savile that makes him look like pure slime.

What next?

You could see how edited it was too.

I've been to at least one recording of every series for a number of years and can't imagine what it would have been like in the audience. I suspect it would have been quite obvious that they had to talk about this longer than they intended to. I feel sorry for Hat Trick!
