Re: Application for the role of Trainee Train Driver with MTR Crossrail

Thank you for completing the MTR Crossrail online tests for the role of trainee driver. I’m pleased to tell you that you’ve been successful and have been shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process which is an assessment centre where we would like to get to know you some more and to see if working for MTR Crossrail as a trainee train driver would be right for you and the organisation.

The assessment centre will be held at the MTR Crossrail offices at 63 St Mary Axe, London, EC3A 8NH. The assessment centre will run on 22 February 2016 from 09:00 until 17:00. We recommend that you plan to arrive by 8:45 at the very latest as the assessment centre will start promptly at 09:00. If you arrive after 09:00 then you will not be able to take part in the assessment centre and you will be turned away. Some practice test materials are attached to help you prepare. It’s recommended that you focus on the practice test materials for the following tests which you will sit on the day:

· The Trainability for Rules and Procedures Test Part 1 and 2
· The Group Bourdon Concentration Test
· The Driver Fault Finding Test (DFFT)
· The Test of Everyday Attention for Occupational Assessment (TEA-Occ)

How many of these assessments are they running? Mine is a month later, on 24/3. Just wondering how many people are going through this stage - 100s?

Good luck to all who are battling through the selection process! Believe in yourself!!!

This battle is DEFINITELY not over yet!!!

Hi all,
Im at the very early stages at the moment and wanted to know what the shift patterns and start / finish times are like, also if there's any slight flexibility at all for childcare

I do the school drop offs in the morning mrs does pickup, so want to see if I could make it work without the Mrs changing her job

For example doing earlies and making it back home to do drop off or lates and being able to drop them off and possibly picking them up.

Hi
I've applied on the 04.01.16 and received email on the 7th with the invite to online assessment.
Now I'm getting ready for assessment centre visit. Practicing nearly every single night hopefully by the 22.03 I'll be calm and ready [emoji41]

Possibly, ONLY if you can eventually do A permanent swap with someone, when you are fully qualified.

Otherwise, tough, welcome to the world of the railway

Hi,

New to the forum...

I'm going to sit down and do my stage 2, online test tomorrow. Has anyone got any advice?

I read someone say there are questions about crossrail? So should I be reading up? Or is it purley questions on how you would react to situations etc?

Thanks

Ken

The interview went pretty much as Drazky described. After arrival (15 min before) they asked me to take a seat. After 20 min i was called in (one of the small rooms "behind the managers"). The two managers were very professional & prepared and made me feel relaxed. Same questions as mentioned before were fired also Why are you leaving your current job? Why changing career? Nothing tricky or unexpected! The interview lasted just under an hour.
Preparation is the key to success (as always is) - be honest and clear about what makes you a GREAT train driver!

I'm going to do the stage 2 online test today.

I only applied last minute and have not much research. I've heard some of the questions are about the company and the crossrail project itself. Is this true? Or is it more I a situational based questionnaire?

Also has anyone who's made it through been told what sort of shift pattern they'll be working once training has finished? Or even what hours the training will be?

Thanks

It's probably been covered somewhere before and I believe I have read it but can't no longer find what I'm after. Does anybody kno if the online questionnaire stage 2 is considered as part of your 2 strike or even a 6 month wait if failed.i sat it last night and believe I miss read a question therefor don't hold much hope for stage 3.

As far as I have read elsewhere it does NOT. From what people on the forums say you only get a strike when you get to the assessment centres and fail. That also does not include failing to get an enhanced score like MTR are after but manage to get the national standard on these days. Saying that should you fail the online questionnaire you would have to wait 6 months before you could reapply for Crossrail but could apply for other TOCs.

Good luck to all going through the various stages of the selection process. Just looking at the information on this forum has been invaluable to me.
Research, practice and try to keep yourself calm on the day is probably the best advice I can give you.
I'm now one of the luck few on a course next Jan.

As always I'll keep checking the site to try and answer anyone's questions.

Now get practicing and nail it as im living proof that a monkey with half brain can make it!

Anyone who is going to the assessment days, just want to give you all heads up that the OPC 2 strikes are marked for life, so please always give it your very best shot, prepare prepare and prepare more. Still hearing lots of people turning up and simply "hope" the day is going to turn up alright. It won't. Not without real efforts being put in. Good luck to all. Awaiting for my DMI interview date now, been a long but productive day this.

Hi shati

I think most of day 2 assessment was covered really well in an earlier post by Drazky. I found the perception test quite tricky but the other two fairly straightforward. You can prepare for the computer tests by purchasing train driver software platinum package off amazon/eBay for about £40 but even if you can't get hold of it the practice you get before the computer tests is sufficient.

It's a strange feeling on the day as you know the finishing line is within site but the uncertainty of awaiting your results is again a killer. MMI questions have been posted before and prepare to be asked and probed on your answers but stay focused and be honest and you'll be fine. Once again the assessors put you at ease and are there to help you get through it.

Good luck all

Keep us updated.

Hello everybody I'm new here this is my first post. Congratulations to all those who have made it through the selection process, a great achievement. I myself have made it to day two of the assessments towards the end of this month. For anybody who has completed day two I have a question.
Will I need to know a great deal about MTR Crossrail at his stage or will that come if I progress to the managers interview?
Thanks in advance.

I'm so pleased to announce I passed the second assessment day!!

Got to say that draksy and others... Your info has been invaluable! Only thing I can say about the MMI for anyone who is about to go through it.... Just be truthful in your answers! They are not trying to trip you up, just trying to gain more insight into your state of mind at the time and how you handled the situation. If your calm and just answer honestly then you should have no problems if your what they are looking for!

Next up is DMI!

Draksy do you mind msging me about how the DMI was structured and what sort of thing they were looking for??

Cheers. Good luck all!!
