All S7 trains delivered to London have entered service.
1 train is at Upminster for engineering staff training; 2 trains are at Ealing Common, for night infrastructure testing and depot re-commissioning.

Additional storage facilities have recently been provided at Old Dalby for the storage of up to 35 S7 trains.

No new deliveries are expected for sometime.

Is there a reason why the area near the articulated section (between carriages) has so few handrails? The seats there have no horizontal grab rails above them, for example, and you see people bracing themselves by trying to hold on to the ceiling...

I would guess that is due to the wish of trying not to encourage people to stand around that area.

It is there if people need to, and mostly to move through.

I have always felt uneasy with those inter-car areas especially when the train or tram or even bus to, is entering a curve. A person with one leg on one side, and a leg on the other, will quickly see themselves doing the splits without knowing it.

Ah, now Tube surfing, a very fun pastime. You can go for the 'hardcore' version where you stand in the dead centre of aisle, and surf away to your hearts content. There is also the easy version where you lean against the diaphragm and get pinched as you go along, but thats not really as fun!

Generally that area is needed to stand in, especially between Edgware Road and Paddington due to the inadequate capacity on that section, but that's another topic!

Thats the part I aim for the most... I used to have to travel overseas to do this on articulated trams and trolleybuses... now I can do this in London as well, on some of the trains (S stock and class 378).

The best fun is seeing how sharp the curve needs be before the legs are getting so far apart that to avoid physically damaging my body one of them has to be raised off the ground.

Further to my post above, an S7 delivery will be made this week.

Also, District Line train 121 should see regular S7 working from today as it doesn't run beyond Barking and is staffed entirely by Acton drivers.

Signalling immunisation has now been completed from Upney to Upminster so this should immanently allow S7 trains to access Upminster during traffic hours.

I saw the train in question twice today. First was this morning, I was waiting at Tower Hill and it was in the bay platform. Second I was coming home and caught it from Westminster back to tower hill.

Nice to see one in service on the District :)

Today I've had the haulage on:

21433/4
21437/8

Saw 21439/40 at Hammersmith depot today and 99% sure I saw 21443/4 on Saturday at Tower Hill, but couldn't go chasing it as I had the family plus my wife's care agency worker in tow.

All recent deliveries with none delivered since 6 October.

Running to Upminster should be available after this weekends work, with more added with the new timetable from 13 December.

This date will also see the end of Circle Line trains starting from Lillie Bridge/Olympia so the last chance to ride from Earl's Court direct to Liverpool Street/Aldgate. Also no District Line trains will stable at Hammersmith depot. Two trains for the Edgware Road service will start from Ealing Common.

As from Feb/March two H&C trains will start from Upminster, daily.

21443/44 is the highest number delivered although the latest actual delivery was 21433/34.

On a recent organised visit to Derby the following were seen in various states of construction or completed:
21485/86
21491/92
21497/98
21505/06
21517/18
various others stored on site and around 23 trains currently at Old Dalby.

How recent was that visit? I've had the middle three in that list for haulage about three months ago - surely they're not sending some S7s back to Derby as well now?

Is this a good time to mention that I saw an S7 in the bay at Tower Hill with a Wimbledon train two weeks ago? Yes, it was in passenger service and the screens did indeed say Wimbledon.

That explains why I saw a District S7 at Mile End today with Barking showing and I'm sure it had 066 as the train number, I think I've worked out what the stations in the list are,

THL = Tower Hill
WDN = Wimbledon

Etc

Can somebody confirm DGE and ECDW please?

My post #488 informs that T121 has been an S7 since September, which visits Tower Hill bay, Wimbedon and Barking.M-F.

Nominated trains will change from 13 December, as more District trains will remain in service between the peak periods.

Why are they storing the latest S7 deliveries and not putting them into service?

Is there some serious barrier blocking their entry onto the District lines?

I would think that, they would prefer to have them into service as soon as is possible.

Stabling capacity in London has been greatly reduced while work continues to be undertaken at Ealing Common, Lillie Bridge and Upminster depots. (10 roads at ECom, 3 at Lillie Bridge, 9 at Upminster).

Commissioning of Upney-Upminster for empty S7s during Traffic Hours was only completed last week, 3 are now making regular empty runs during M-F daytimes. Richmond should come back into use very soon, with passenger workings to Upminster scheduled from 15 January.

Driver training has already been completed at Acton, Earl's Court and Barking with Upminster around 25% complete.

26 trains are currently awaiting dispatch from Old Dalby test facilities.
