The Northern trio are going back to Old Oak Common. Entering service along with the stored 2 for FGW on peak workings is still the accepted plan as far as I'm aware.

I think you mean expected not accepted.
Whats going to happen to the 180s when they go back.I thought FGW were interested in taking five of them but that idea seems to have gone quite.Rail eye-the railway blog http://railwayeye.blogspot.com/2011/11/tories-destined-to-repeat-mistakes-of.html says it will be 1,000 days on the 28th December since the placing of the last new train order.Adding "but East Coast and Great Western are already devoting time and effort to looking at 'credible' alternatives."Thoughts.
Yes I think it's supposed to be 156+150 combinations replacing the 180s. Merseyside are set to be getting 2x142s and 142+150 combinations replacing quite a few of their 156 diagrams from December.
Ahhh No and NoEr... are you suggesting that the 5 x 5 car 180s will have some sort of impact on whether or not FGW use IEPs?
Or did you just accidentally paste a completely irrelevant topic into this thread?
Oh Sh***. Why do we always seemed to get lumbered with all the worst trains ? First they pinched the 158's off the Liverpool - Manchester Airport and Liverpool - Blackpool services, to send them to Yorkshire, and now it looks like many of our 156's are to be taken elsewhere.

Isn't there only one in store at present as GC have taken on an extra one for now and subleased one of theirs to Hull Trains?

I need to get to Manchester on Friday morning, am I right in thinking the 1149 from Preston to Victoria won't be a 180?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd rather have an 8 car pacer or 6 car 150 over a 3 car 185 to commute on!
At least you'll be getting (four coach?) EMUs on those lines in a few years time (rather than two coach DMUs)
I dont know... I was on a west midlands liveried 150 last week and apart from the 1980's interior decor, it had very comfy seats, was surprisingly quiet engine-wise and quick of the mark from station stops. A very nice train to travel on really for a suburban unit.
It didn't last. 180103 arrived back at Vic 12:45 ish minus three engines and was swapped for 180106 working back out at 13:22.
156s are also used on the Manchester Oxford Rd to Lime Street services, which won't be changing to EMUs anytime soon.
Are the 5 spare Class 180's still moving back to FGW at the timetable in May next year?
The 0755 Bolton - Hazel Grove is usually operated by a 180, however not today. I'm not up on my trains, so I'm not sure what it was that turned up in its place. However, despite being doubled up it was insufficient for the number of people wanting to board, and some were left on the platform. The 180's may have a few faults, but they are certainly a better commute into work than anything else that Northern use on the Preston to Manchester line.
Don't think there's been a 180 operating that service all this week either so far.
The last remaining 180 is booked to stay on the Victoria diagram until 2 December. The Hazel Grove diagram is booked for 2x150s.
2x150s are woefully inadequate on the service by the time it gets to Lostock on the morning peak to Hazel Grove. More issues this week with overcrowding.
Monday - lady fainted and had to get off the train at Deansgate after being crushed as the station staff were ramming them on the train Japanese style at Salford Crescent.
Tuesday - passenger scuffle started up as we left Bolton as the carriage was rammed again and a few people were arguing over not having any room and standing on each others toes. It actually did lead to a bit of potty mouth shouting.
Wednesday - bliss. Only a normal busy service.
Luckily I wasn't on it yesterday or today. I think from next week I'll move my journey back for 30 minutes and get the Victoria service.
