Because my grandmother lives in Manchester, my uncle lives in Llandudno and I love Virgin. Therefore - I go on Pendolinos regularly.

An example of how regularly: The last time was Saturday. The next time will be 3rd January. I might also fit in an extra trip over late December.
And you are 15? It would explain a lot.

Ok, I'm sorry. That was probably before the withdrawal of my stupid "controversial" image.
Was that yesterday? You were not in any sense controversial.

You really have a lot to learn.

Late October and I made it public so people were aware. ;)

So you don't need to worry. Especially as I'm very aware that if this conversation continues a moderator will close my thread which was going well until this happened. And I don't want that to happen so feel free to put me in my place via PM or a new thread. :p

@fowler9 that goes for you too. And as for age you are wrong it explains nothing, please don't let that affect anything. Quite a few members of this forum are in their mid teens and are perfectly sensible well respected members of the site, some even have titled roles. Just because I seem to accidentally dig myself holes don't take it out on the other teen users of the forum, it isn't fair on them. :(
I am very mature for my age too believe it or not, but when it comes to railways I admit I am too passionate about my ideas and unfortunately the maturity I promise you I normally possess to drift away. Just don't let that affect others on the forum who are the same age as me, I can think of many but I won't be naming and shaming.

Once again if you wish to put me in my place do so via a PM or new thread for sure because although I'm interested to hear what you want to say about me (I am in no way thin skinned) I don't want my thread to be closed.

Regards.

I am surprised the pendo still splits opinion as it does. I wonder if any other train in the past has, or if the 700 / 800 will in 15 years time?

Mate you know what I don't want to put you in your place. I just got to thinking you were a bit younger than me. I should be saying sorry if I was putting you down. It is great that you are strong willed and are in to traveling, keep it up. I hope you get to travel like I have, it may change you opinions on some stuff, it may not. I think you are slightly wrong regarding age though, being young doesn't mean you aren't intelligent, but in general it means you just haven't experienced as much as some other people. Now in some cases some young people experience some incredible things at a very young age, in many cases they don't and don't have a clue about the world around them.

Pacers ? A few people seem to love them; the rest of us wish they had never been built.

They’re decent trains but they really need to turn the heating down! I went to Birmingham on one last Saturday and felt like I was in a moving sauna!

Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration, more like a laconium!

They are great for the travelling public, plenty of capacity, WiFi, plug sockets, DDA compliant, modern looking, high back seating and they are great politically, being environmentally friendly.
Let me fix that for you:

They are poor for the travelling public, very minimal extra capacity (only 13 extra Standard Class seats on an entire eleven car Pendo vs VTEC HST, and far fewer decent seats that I'd find it acceptable to spend a long journey in), very few power sockets, aesthetically poor, uncomfortable seating, lack of elbow space, and many 'window' seats lacking any view whatsoever.

As for claims of being "environmentally friendly", I think you've made that up. There are many sources (see this post and this blog entry, both of which refer to an article by Roger Ford in Modern Railways in 2004, though Roger Ford's site appears to be inaccessible at the moment) which suggest they use significantly more juice than the trains they replaced.

(Minor point but DDA was repealed 7 years ago. A much better word to use is simply "accessible". No need for jargon and acronyms when a simple descriptive word will suffice)

Hey thanks man, that’s really nice of you to say! Sorry I was a bit blunt! Yeah travelling is great, and addictive, Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, Wales, Scotland, Barbados and St Lucia have been visited since 2016 and you do get to experience great stuff!

What difference does a type of train operated by the same company on the same service make to the catering?
Exactly and surely all there products must come from the same supplier or unless they buy lower quality voyager food cheaper lol.

I will thanks, my brother and I have a first class Scotland trip coming up on Pendolinos in January, so I’ll see if I can identify all of the problems raised today!

I suppose if you've only ever eaten brown rice, and you think brown rice is amazing, then you've never missed lobster thermidor because you've never had it.

Have I gone all Yoda now? o_O

I've had good and bad experiences with Pendos, I can tollerate them from London - Birmingham/Warrington/Preston before I start feeling travel sick from the tilt, if I go Scotland I normally travel via VTEC. Quite a few times I've done that, often do the weekend first which VTEC it's a better service, china mugs for tea, etc. Although, West Coast have got slightly better with their weekend first service now they've started to do Sandwiches and Wraps! (I mainly travel on weekends). If I do go to Scotland via West Coast I do tend to take travel pills, a blindfold and just sleep it though, although I do like the scenery north of Oxenholme and the tilt does make it an experience. Being honest? They surve their purpose of the travelling public. I don't really have a dislike to any train, really. They all have their ups and downs, but I just enjoy travelling that's far more important.

I’d say it was more of an allegory.
It is perhaps, although the narrative is a little on the thin side and it's more about a specific point than a wider concept like human nature or something that is usually associated with an allegory. Does GCSE English even have the difference between a metaphor and an allegory in it?

The issues like lack of elbow room and no window view do not really affect First Class - but they do affect most seats on the train.

It's a metaphor.

I'm sure Year 10 students should know that ;)

I'm in Year 10 and I don't know that!

Also, when do we ever expect to see a refurbishment of the Pendelinos?

I didn’t think they taught about stuff like that at GCSE!

Who says I’m in Year Ten by the way?

Pendolinos are being externally refurbished currently.
