It sounds genuinely authentic heritage to me, at least, if it reminds you of the 1950s. :)
Too true - any authentic recreation of 50/60's railways would have to be pretty filthy - it was hard to see any green livery under the layers of grime! However, this thread does remind us how lucky we are to have such a thriving heritage sector with several contenders in the "Premier League"

For obvious reasons, whether a line is rail-connected or not is important to many on this forum. However, most if not all lines get the bulk of their passengers by road. So whether a line is rail-connected or not has little to do with whether it counts as a premier-league line. The Bluebell was a premier-league line long before it made it to East Grinstead, for example.
The last time I travelled on the WSR (admittedly quite awhile ago), it was fairly easily accessible by local bus. Certainly no greater walk than say to the GCR.
In Switzerland, bus and train are seen as one coordinated public transport system. Why do so many rail enthusiasts in this country seem to regard buses with antipathy?

Simple buses are less comfortable than trains and often less frequent than trains. Another big thing is they can get stuck in solid traffic especially if running near a major city.

Also there is nothing worse than spending a day relaxing in 1st class on the train only to have to transfer to far less comfortable bus for 3 or 4 hour bounce to your final destination in the county. Something that NSW trainlink users in regional areas are well aware of. Hence the dis satisfaction of having to ride on a bus especially long distance services. Even worse is trackwork buses especially when you might be stuck on it overnight instead of a nice sleeper!
