A pootle round West Yorkshire on Tuesday 30th Oct produced the following winners: 43277, 180105, 185151, 221132, 321902, 322481.

Saltaire, Frizinghall, Guiseley and Sandal & Agbrigg were visited for the first time (and the pub at Guiseley does a decent burger).

I have also been busy recently scratching loads of locos in Austria, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia haven't got time to list them all right now but pictures gradually appearing here and gory details here .

Since returning to the UK I have managed to get 67027 and 66176 but can't see me getting much more at home this year.

Three new engines for me in recent weeks, namely 66197 and 66095 on the Ferry Go Round, followed by 92003 last Saturday. Also, an afternoon in London prior to the Ferry Go Round netted my last Class 357 and 360 units - I must get round to doing a list of the totals of each unit class that I require like some others on here. Might aim for one dated Jan 1st.

The red pen saw some action on Sunday when I went to Edinburgh for the Scotland v All Blacks game.

My service Waverley to Haymarket was 220028.

Other winners in recent weeks were both on 27th Oct, 66176 on UK Railtours Boulby tour, then 60009 'Union of South Africa' on the Hadrian Skipton-Shipley.

The computerisation of all my travel logs going back to the 1980s - all were manual - has lead me to the stark realisation that I need London Underground and DLR units by the shedload (over 400 units total). This means that particularly in the winter months I will be looking in that direction to keep up red lines (in reality yellow shading on my travel log). By about 1990, I thought that I had cleared up on all available LU/DLR stock apart from the odd set of A stock which has since been secured. Since then we have had:
1992 stock - where I need 122 individual two car units
Waterloo and City - all sorted although only one trip logged with units 9/10
1995 stock - three years commuting on the Northern line soon after the introduction of the 1995 stock sorted that nicely
1996 stock - 26 units needed, most of which are the even numbered ones but as I use the Jubilee regularly, knocking these off should not be too difficult.
2009 stock - I am only an erratic user of the Victoria line but already a third have fallen. These are not my higherst priority
S-8 stock - The Metropolitan line is normally off my normal lines of travel so I will have to make an effort here
S-7 stock - Part of the regular commute to work is on the District/Circle so once these enter traffic, then I will hopefully pick up these quite easily.
DLR - Apart from the B90 stock, I need most DLR units as I have only made one trip on the DLR in recent times.
Tram(p)link - I have all of the original batch of 24 units so a few hours in Croydon will be necessary to sort the new kids on the block.
The result is that looking for new stuff to ride on the national network may have to take a bit of a back seat although the 2013 target will be my remaining pacers and 507/508 stock.
Light rail stock from outside London (Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester etc) will have to wait until next year
Oh, and any tips for the best sections of line to bash 1992 stock (Central line) and DLR?

Be aware 2559 is currently out of traffic at the depot; you should be able to get all the other 5 in one short session between East Croydon and Lebanon Road.

The trick is, at East Croydon let them go if they're heading west because of the one way loop; you lose too much time getting back to East Croydon. I cleared 5 of the 6 in 45 minutes when I went for them; fortunately that included 2559 and I was able to get my missing one ( 2555 ) a week later...

Not sure yet when 2559 is going to be back in traffic.

A marathon effort yesterday saw me finally get 158710 to clear the class. Went to Inverness, only to find out it had gone to Edinburgh (Staying in Inverkeithing !!). However while en-route to Aberdeen, was told it was going to be out in evening, went straight do Edinburgh on 1705 and got it on 1938 Newcraighall to Glenrothes.

I'd be interested to know where 158713 is working over the next few days. I am hoping to track it down next week as it is the only Scotrail unit I need, I'll also be doing some 'Skip' bashing while I am up there.

Since my last post all I've had loco wise is 92019 and 92003 (my first two!). Various units and light rail contraptions have also been had (and I've cleared my Sheffield trams) but I can't be bothered to list them!

Oh, and any tips for the best sections of line to bash 1992 stock (Central line) and DLR?

Bit of an update on the London Underground situation.
1996 Stock - I have managed to secure another 5 units so only 21 to go.
1992 Stock - With nothing else better to do yesterday (2 December) afternoon, I headed for the Central Line and managed to knock off no less than 31 two car sets in about three hours - I seemed to be constantly on the move
S-8 - I have made a bit of an effort here with several visits to Baker Street and already around 40% of the units have fallen. I have even managed to get my first S-7+1 unit
2009 stock - 4 half units fell on my way to/from the Central Line bash mentioned above.

Now a question for all of you bashers - what's the minimum acceptable distance that you travel on a unit (or behind a loco) before it is logged as a score?
For me, I always aim for at least one mile although in extreme circumstances although there are a few items in the log that have less than a mile to their name.

In an ideal world as much as possible, but I have plenty of Exeter SD -> Exeter Central moves on pacers, 150s and 159s when I was just going into city centre, not specifically to go bashing as such - it all counts though! Still waiting for 143603 to turn up mind!

A coach length will do - and I've had one or two things for not much more than that! As AdamW says, "it all counts"! If you travelled (say) between Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Road (a distance of 0.54 miles), presumably you would record the journey but still say you needed whatever provided the power?

Anybody who was on the recent BLS trips to the Avon Valley and Middleton railways would have had brake van rides behind industrial shunters which weren't much further than this, in both cases to travel over part of sidings which were otherwise blocked by rolling stock.

I'll count anything over one chain (which is near enough a coach length).

Surely as long as it has imparted motion under it's own power, it has made you move and therefore it is a haulage.

In the case of a trailer carriage, I would suggest the same provided it was coupled to the source of motive power.

( What I am not sure about is the hypothetical situation of if you are on a trailer vehicle and it runs away down a gradient through the brakes bleeding off and it hasn't been pushed / shunted to start it moving, does that count?! )

Minimum distance I'd count is 1 chain, except in exceptional circumstances. Such a circumstance would usually be along the lines of the train moving but subsequently braking down. And yes, I have been on a couple of 168s where that has almost happened!
