I have been trying to check up on the current status of the ScotRail HST formations.

The best information I have found is this page http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/page/HST+ScotRail+Fleet on the scot-rail website, but this does not appear to have been updated since November 2021. Can anyone confirm that the formations remain the same or update the lists?

It lists the formations as follows (all credit to the folks behind this site):

I think they are still valid but I'll try and get confirmation.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that there are some refurbished mark 3 coaches at Haymarket. What are they doing there?

Do you mean Slateford near Haymarket or Haymarket depot? If the latter, then the above answer if correct. If Slateford, then awaiting insertion into HST sets.

To be fair to Scotrail, and I know it's difficult at the moment, in the past week I've become aware of more 5 coach sets in traffic. The service feels a little bit less wretched overall than it was a month ago so maybe we are starting to head in the right direction.

Related to this, I came across a Twitter thread the other day relating to the age old topic of gross overcrowding on 170s on the Highland Main Line, suitcases blocking doorways, that sort of thing.

Their social media flunkie gave it the usual 'we've got everything we have available' line to the complainant which prompted someone else to challenge them on what happened to Inter7City on the route. The response was that they would have more HSTs running if they had enough drivers trained on them.

Does anyone know if this is the real reason why so few HSTs are out, or is it convenient twaddle given that it's all over the media that they're short of drivers, but the truth is they can cram everyone more cheaply on a 158 or 170?

From what I've seen and read elsewhere, I don't think that's inaccurate. There is a real problem with driver training.

It will have been Slateford. What is the delay in inserting them?

Is there a return date for HA02 or HA08? Seems like a lot of stock has been available for a long time but unused?

There are a couple of Scotrail powercars wrapped round one of these sets at Wabtec Doncaster so perhaps its return is imminent

HA07 is now in traffic as a 5 car set

43127 40607 42207 42574 42288 42056 43124

So what is the advantage of having them stood in the sidings at Slateford as opposed to them being inserted in sets?
Have they been tested in a set?

HA07 is one of the five:

HA05, 06, 07, 10, 11

I did not realise they had to be. I thought that they came from Wabtec ready to go.
I understood they had to be formed into and tested in a set before they were clear to run in passenger service?

There was something in the old, mammoth, ScotRail HST thread.

That’s a lot of investment sitting doing nothing in a siding. As a tax payer in Scotland, I’d be justified in being a bit miffed about that - particularly after infrastructures like Cadder being built.

There is currently a major issue with new inverters fitted in the 1st class coach during refurbishment all going faulty. This causes all manner of electrical issues and they are having to be sent away for repair. Also the doors to the guards compartment are also breaking and jamming shut precluding access to detonators and safety equipment. Two reasons the coach availability has been poor as well as multiple wheel flat issues. On the plus side the catering equipment is being recommissioned and 2 sets are due back from Wabtec imminently. 43128 is also being actively worked on having been stored for almost 4 years.

Sounds like some hope of a working fleet again and cafebar return? It shows the wrong gossip that’s around!

Does anybody know what power cars will be allocated to the 2 sets that are due back from Wabtec soon please, this will allow me to track the diagrams when in service for the stock formations. Thank you.
