Okay take these with a pinch of salt but all these following services were worked by HST today

    (HA02)
    0548 ABD-EW (1B07)
    0928 EW-ABD (1A55)
    1312 ABD-EW (1B32)
    1628 EW-ABD (1A79)
    1945 ABD-GQS (1T48)

    (HA06)
    0741 GQS-ABD (1A51)
    1046 ABD-GQS (1T18)
    1340 GQS-ABD (1A67)
    1739 ABD-GQS (1T40)
    2040 GQS-ABD (1A91)

    (HA18 REFURB)
    0539 ABD-GQS (1T06)
    1208 GQS-INV (1H51)
    1556 INV-EW (1B54)
    1941 EW-INV (1H19)

    (HA21 REFURB)
    0738 ABD-GQS (1T10)
    1040 GQS-ABD (1A59)
    1350 ABD-GQS (1T26)
    1642 GQS-ABD (1A77)
    2011 ABD-EW (1B51)

    (HA22 REFURB)
    0530 EW-ABD (1A41)
    0904 ABD-EW (1B18)
    1230 EW-ABD (1A75)
    1600 ABD-EW (1B40)
    1934 EW-ABD (1A88)

    (HA23 REFURB)
    0456 INV-EW(1B14)
    1132 EW-ABD (1A71)
    1538 ABD-GQS (1T34)
    1841 GQS-ABD (1A87)
    2200 ABD-INV (1H43)

    (HA24 REFURB)
    0845 INV-GQS (1T98)
    1508 GQS-INV (1H15)
    1853 INV-EW (1B44)

    (HA32)
    0622 ABD-INV (1H23)
    0944 INV-EW (1B52)
    1333 EW-INV (1H13)
    1727 INV-GQS (1T62)

    (HA03)
    0729 EW-ABD (1A45)
    1102 ABD-EW (1B24)
    1528 EW-ABD (1A78)
    1840 ABD-GQS (1T44)
    2140 GQS-ABD (1A95)

    (HA20 REFURB I THINK)
    0707 GQS-INV (1H05)
    1102 INV-ABD (1A50)
    1343 ABD-INV (1H33)
    1714 INV-ABD (1A58)

Now these will probably chop and change with the other usual suspects that have been HST formed in past if the unit allows for it to get the right amount of HST in Inverness the 1740 Edinburgh-Inverness has to be a HST so that diagram should reappear at some point hope this helps weekday people anyway strong start as they say let's hope it can stay fairly strong

That's promising - did they all manage to complete their diagrams?

I note that the very early 0456 Inverness to Edinburgh doesn't seem to be in Scotrail's printed timetable by the way ...?

    Possibly because it’s via Aberdeen?

Yes, it’s on the Inverness-Aberdeen and Aberdeen (well, Inverurie) to Edinburgh timetables.

I’m not sure anyone would go end to end on it anyway since the 0536 via Perth gets into Edinburgh 15 minutes earlier.

Every one completed their diagram today. Today sees a new diagram in the 0841 from Glasgow coming out as HST as that's the unit that went to Perth last night only missing diagram today soo far is the 0622 Aberdeen Inverness which is a 170 all day

That's better, it's not amazing (or maybe it is(!)) but it's progress. The issue is whether it can be kept up as in the past it hasn't. If it does, the ScotRail's decision not to accept new refurb sets until issues were fixed may well have paid off.

So the reliability is better as well then.

43142/43144's path was cancelled today, due to "a problem with the traction equipment".

15:28 Edinburgh to Aberdeen cancelled due to a fault with HA19 (refurb), not sure what kind of fault though.

That's great news as a whole, compared to September, when Scotrail were struggling to get enough serviceable HST's to cover 4 or 5 diagrams.

So on a sample size of 1 (day) we've got a 70% reliability rate, if my calculations are correct.

10 diagrams of which 3 failed during the day.

Missing from the list is the 19:16 on Monday from Aberdeen to Edinburgh which was consisted of a classic HST set (I was on it until Montrose).

It's certainly an improvement but nothing great. Let's hope the level can only increase in the coming weeks as HST after HST rolls off the Wabtec lines.

Thanks anyway, ideally this won't be a recurring theme...

Scottish Government moving to end the Abellio franchise early.
Readers of this thread will know the complexities of blame, which is not being attributed as a reason for this political change.
But easy for Government to bow to political pressure. It must be frustrating for those who have conceived and worked at improvement. I thank them for envisaging an intercity service and upgrading it with HST.

The Inter7city project HST remains as unfinished business, though it appears to be beginning to bed in.
Questions arise about its future and eventual replacement; and the level of further investment in the network to enable reliable high speed rail services? We need continuity of expertise and vision and access to investment . I am not sure whether this can be done in house?

So with 10 HST diagrams in the new timetable the plan will be all Refurbs avail and the remaining made up of classics?

Tomorrow’s delivery will mean one more classic off the diagrams?

Then next timetable change maybe another diagram jump, say 16 HST’s with a mix of refurb and classic until enough refurbs arrive to take classics off. And so on?

Is that a plausible scenario for the timetabling/logistics and maintenance to all work? Is that maybe how it’s meant to have worked previously?

The reason for the ditching Abellio was articulated in parliament today as a forecast of an increase in the government subsidy. Hence we can presume Scot Gov is looking for a way out of reducing subsidies on rail. This will affect HST replacement and perhaps electrification or limit the scope of the next franchising/ public ownership.
These HST trains look like having a longer future in Scotland than those who speculated otherwise.

I agree this would impact new trains as the subsidies go towards leasing costs but electrification isn't affected by subsidy as it's a capital cost and infrastructure investment. From other forums, Glasgow southern suburban (Barrhead, East Kilbride and Kilmarnock), Dunblane to Perth and the Borders lines are in the frame to be tackled next. If electrification goes ahead, the question becomes where does the stock come from? If subsidies are being cut, it would suggest a stock cascade from elsewhere rather than new stock to reduce leasing costs. That would likely rule out the 80x bimodes so I guess you're right; that means the HSTs stick around longer for longer distance services. You could look at converting the power cars to bimode I suppose :)

Hopefully the right place for this one.
I'm up in Scotland in March to get some HST time and wanted to include rounding from Aberdeen to Inverness and back to the central belt.
Looking at maximising my 125 time I looked at the 1040 GQS to Aberdeen.
The 1343 Aberdeen to Inverness follows naturally. This service pulls in to Inverness at 1600, with a 1556 to Edinburgh leaving just prior and the next service south being another 90 minutes.
I'm just looking at getting some random travelling done, but if I was at the Inverness end of the Aberdeen route, then I'd not be best pleased at having to wait for so long at Inverness before being able to travel to Edi or Glasgow.
If I've missed something then okay, but it appears to be a terribly timed service given the arrival only four minutes prior of the west bound train.

That's true but there's a service from elgin (halfway between Aberdeen and Inverness) to Inverness about half an hour earlier which makes the connection. I think anyone east of elgin wanting to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh would travel via Aberdeen not inverness.
