Blue Lias limestone used to be quarried at Street. It still is at Somerton.

Secondary school age children from Gwaun Cae Gurwen who want to learn in Welsh can go to Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera

Gerald of Wales, historian and royal clerk to King Henry II, was born in Manorbier but became archdeacon of Brecon, later trying and failing to be appointed as Archbishop of St Davids, independent of Canterbury.

Perranporth has strong connections with Poldark through its author Winston Graham, who lived there for many years. I was surprised to learn that the town scenes of the recent TV series were mostly filmed at Corsham in Wiltshire

Dan Jones, missionary of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints and translator of the Book of Mormon into Welsh, was born in Halkyn in 1810. Dan Jones, author, historian and TV presenter, was born in Reading in 1981.
