Slight changes you would make to liveries to make them nicer

Here is another more like the Azuma.
Cosher will like this one ;)
I love this sleek modern look. However, in contrast to their old livery it looks far more aggressive. The old livery was the perfect combination of 'happy bee' and highspeed intercity service. I would choose the more inviting and positive styling as it trains are part of the landscape through which they pass and have a broad impact on many people.

I think the next SE franchisee should go for using the livery colour to help the customer understand what service that train is, a la SWT. Certainly would be a help at stations served by both high speed and conventional services (sure, a local commuter or enthusiast may understand the difference, but someone on a day trip may not)

I've got some mockups back at home, but I think that 395s would look good in a grey 'high speed' look, showing the customer that it is a premium service. The 375/377 fleets should remain in their blue colours, while the metro fleets would probably be best in a red colour (matches up roughly with the old SWT colours as well).

Obviously if Stagecoach get the franchise we may get this :)

These were done by a friend, I think it looks better than the yellow ones! :o

But if I'm following the rules of this thread, I'd change the old SPT livery on the 334s and make it look like the SPT class 170 livery. The placement of the teal band on the 334s just annoyed me.
Both of these liveries were a well-executed modern take on the classy 'Carmine/Cream' livery, but I always did prefer the version carried by the 170s; the positioning of the teal band on the version carried by the 334s never seemed to sit right with me. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought so lol

Interestingly enough, the top picture of the two is what the rest of the 172 fleet will look like; their headlights are powerful enough to warrant complete yellow-end removal. 339 didn't appear with full like-for-like black and yellow replacement as there wasn't enough time to get it done before the launch day.

With reference to Arriva not renewing its Wales franchise. I am an infrequent traveller on their trains but have always found the service and their staff first class. However, I am sure I am not alone in saying that I hope that the next franchisee has a much brighter and cheerier livery than the dull and dreary blue and green which we currently see on the South Wales lines.

half yellow11.png half yellow112.png half yellow333.png Three more attempted tweeks to the new LNR class 350 livery. Base image not mine and someone else added the initial yellow to the cab which I then modified.

Please excuse lack of unit numbers on two of them (because of yellow added above windscreen).

What do you think?

I have to disagree, I always thought the SPT livery made modern trains look old fashioned and dowdy.

First one, definitely. Funnily enough the second one makes me think of the Mark 2-based EMUs (504, etc).

Can we have a top one with the full yellow on the gangway?

Not my image but here's one someone did. Half corridor is far better imo. As front on it looks like a smooth continuation of the windscreen lines.

Looks better on 350/2/3/4 which have split corridor yellow. 350/1 has full yellow on corridor and doesn't look as sleek.

Other one here is one I found online, which is sort of what i was trying to achieve with the front on my last mock-up above.

Eh, I like them both. I do like it when a whole "thing" is one colour, in this case the very-obviously-demarcated gangway doors.

I cant find the studies i read on safety colouring but will keep looking. Interestingly they weren't ALL black/yellow based. I recall a Belgian one which suggested red and white was best, hence their number plates!

I have no scientific basis for my views and hope the RSSB have tested their view out in the North East on a cold, dark, gray, dreich, winter afternoon rather than just in the ideal conditions offered by a laboratory. Hopefully I will be wrong and there wont be an increase in track worker injuries because we still hurt far too many people in that environment and we don't need to make it any worse.

if it is shown to have no safety impact then i am happy for the front of a train to be painted any colour. If not them keep it yellow until we have a better solution.
All track workers these days have to wear orange hi visibility suits. Surely it makes sense to also have trains painted in bright/hi vis - it's more risky for a track worker to not see a train than vice versa.

I don't understand your point. You cant see the side of the train form the track...................

Black fronts look quite depressing. Although the class 365 'smiling train' concept seems really silly at first, I'm sure the bright yellow front and smiling curves have improved people's mood somewhat, especially on those cold and rainy winter mornings.

Here's one I made earlier - finally a perfect thread for it...

Pretty much better than the real thing.

Regarding the new Pendo livery, I'd ditch the red as it doesn't suit the shape of the train at all. I'd simply have the word Virgin in red, and bring back the black window band.

The numbers are so small that it's difficult to make a meaningful comparison. What's more important though (and even harder to get hard figures for) is how much effort French track workers need to put into staying safe compared to UK and the knock-on effect on productivity.

Add a splash of colour or something to the sides of the white TL 700 livery! The white is starting to look REALLY grubby.
