Hull Trains: Long Weekender £60 return (Fri - Mon) using Super Off Peak trains.
And only available on their website and app, in limited numbers (they're not available on all services and not at all on connections), which is presumably why they're not doing it as a day return (and it tells you it's booked seats, too).£1.50 advances each way, so not actually a return ticket, only bookable 3+ days out, specific trains only... so not flexible. Cue someone thinking they've got a return, as that's what the advert says, and their £3 Thursday turns into a £6.40 Thursday when they get on the "wrong" train and get excessed to a new single
They should just introduce a temporary "Northern only" day return at £3...
20 minutes on the train vs 80 minutes on a bus. Not really competing with each other. That seems to be a strange promotion, trying to complete with the local buses from Bolton & Manchester (assuming such things exist)?
There's a couple of bus services that are about an hour, both every 12 minutes, potentially stopping much closer to where people are starting and finishing their journeys than having to go to/from the rail station at both ends. And currently significantly cheaper than the train. There is a lot of new capacity that was added in December. Blackburn - Rochdale is 2tph, and the Cumbria services were rerouted that way too.
20 minutes on the train vs 80 minutes on a bus. Not really competing with each other.
Trying to stimulate demand was my thought, or perhaps trying to win over car drivers (for whom it'd take just over 30 minutes to get to Manchester). That seems to be a strange promotion, trying to complete with the local buses from Bolton & Manchester (assuming such things exist)?
To qualify for this special offer, simply collect three tokens from your local newspaper on participating dates, complete the correct on-line form, download and print the form and buy your tickets from any staffed ticket office. You can travel anywhere on the Northern network using Northern services. Hop on and off all day long. Depending on your home station, you can visit Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Southport, Sheffield, York and more with Northern. Three tokens allow you to buy up to four Northern only Day Ranger tickets or Weekend Rover tickets which must all be used on the same day or weekend (depending on the ticket chosen). Travel is available between Monday 13 February - Friday 31 March 2023.
"National World" newspapers? Has Johnston Press been taken over?Northern’s £10 anywhere in a day / £17.50 anywhere over a weekend offer in conjunction with newspaper vouchers is back…

Interestingly the email I received says two tokens whereas the promotion online says three.
The online forms downloadable on your link have space for three tokens so I would assume you need three rather than two.Interestingly the email I received says two tokens whereas the promotion online says three.
None of the papers are in the Greater Manchester/Cheshire/Merseyside area (except two in Wigan) unless I've missed something.

No, that's the Sun on Sunday.Regarding the Sunday Sun, is this a Murdoch rag that replaced the News of the World, or is this a different Sunday Sun?
Wouldn't be much of a partnership with the newspapers though, would it?It would be so much better if they did away with the need for newspaper vouchers and just had the online form to download. Or even have instructions to buy the rangers online to have it as an e-ticket (similar style to the Friends & Family tickets)
Like London Midland did with the Great Escape tickets.
Presumably far fewer people who aren't regular users of the railway would find out about it without a daily advert in the paper (not at typical advertising rates as people will buy more papers to take advantage of the offer). It would be so much better if they did away with the need for newspaper vouchers and just had the online form to download. Those local 'news'papers will simply get a small boost for the days/weeks the promotion is on before not getting purchased.Presumably far fewer people who aren't regular users of the railway would find out about it without a daily advert in the paper (not at typical advertising rates as people will buy more papers to take advantage of the offer).
And yet you think it would be better if they didn't sell any additional copies?.
Those local 'news'papers will simply get a small boost for the days/weeks the promotion is on before not getting purchased.
Most will simply buy it for the token and bin it without even reading the delights of the adventure of Mrs Jones and her bins or Mr Smith and his bad workmanship from some dodgy fly by night builders.
Do you have to collect one token per week? Or, can you buy 2 papers at the same time, and use 1 token from each? These are the participating papers in Reach PLC where only two tokens are needed.
