On the London Overground network, Cheshunt is one of three northern termini of the Lea Valley Lines, Chingford and Enfield Town being the other two.

The line from Cliteroe continues northwards towards Hellifield, although passenger services are limited to a pair of Sundays only Dalesrail charter trains and occasional railtours. The line also forms part of a valuable strategic diversionary route between Preston and Carlisle, which is utilised if planned engineering work blocks the West Coast Main Line over Shap.

The railway from Truro to Falmouth (promoted under the "Maritime Line" name) is designated as a community rail line, and is supported by marketing provided by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership. The Tamar Valley Line between Plymouth and Gunnislake is also supported by the Partnership; the first station on that line from Plymouth is Devonport.

Many "Parkway" stations on the National Rail network have been built on new sites to serve modern developments.
Among those which came about by adding a Parkway suffix to an existing and long-established station are Whittlesford and Didcot Parkway.

Didcot is a junction between the Great Western Main Line (GWML) and the route to Oxford and the Midlands. This route passes through Appleford on it's way to Oxford.
