Never visited it or been near it but a picture of Berney Arms Station suggests it has limited use - not only unmanned but unlit.

Salwick on the preston-blackpool line as i dont think i've seen a train stop there yet!!
All those 843 exits last year make it very popular. 89th Least busiest station last year I believe. However despite the vast number of people that use itBerney Arms is actually very popular with walkers, and is the only easy way of accessing a pub of the same name. It will leave a big void if it closed.
And the logic for this statement is ......... ?
It has always been one of those uncertain myths as to which station the song was dreamt up on. Apparently the concert was at Widnes but many reckon the station was actually Runcorn and not any of the Widnes stations. Though I suppose Widnes needs all the help it can get for it's bid to become a tourist trap.
Maybe someone should write or e-mail a picture of Widnes (nee Widnes North) to Mr.Simon and see if he recognises it.
Ha! Spat my tea out then!
I would support the closure of Ardwick. And propose the closure of Norton Bridge etc. Basically everywhere is sustained by a parliamentary service.
I would also build two extra platforms, well, a graded separated island on the west side of Wigan North Western and close Wallgate. Increased interchange and journey opportunities.
Related - I would close Warrington Bank Quay and Warrington Central... And open a new Warrington Interchange built with the high-level Liverpool - Manchester platforms in the same location as the low-level mainline platforms. Again, increased journey and interchange opportunities.
This may be controversial, but I'd like to see Sudbury & Harrow Road closed. There are too many small suburban stations on the congested two track Chiltern Main Line between Wembley and Denham and it isn't easy to give them all a meaningful service level in between the 100mph fast services. For this reason Sudbury & Harrow Road only gets a very limited peak-time only service and even these trains are not heavily used from the station. Sudbury Town tube station is nearby and the area is served by several bus routes so the hardship caused by closing the station would be minimal.

Yup was just going to say this aand have said it before on here too. 12K passengers per year is a stupid amount to keep a stati0on open with only 5 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon or something..
They could then probably realign the track and get a better speed through there.
And its a proper dump too.
Stats for Berney Arms not accurate - Anglia Plus and Wherry Line rover holders will not be counted for example.

That won't be a popular comment. Places like Denton have demand for a service but not the same service for which a parliamentary exists. Denton doesn't have many people wanting to go to Stalybridge but would have demand for a Manchester Victoria service, which is proposed in the Northern Hub.
Sadly it has just had a lot of money spent on it. The up platform was rebuilt to compensate for the increase in cant following the EG3 line speed increase and the shelter has been enlarged and replaced as part of a Chiltern franchise commitment. What a wastle of money.
When I first started about 10 years ago no one ever left the train at Ardwick in the morning now there are about 10 each time, does not sound much but considering only 3 or 4 trains a day stop there a day compared to places like Strines its not a bad percentage.
Close golf street, Barry links and balmossie between carnoustie and dundee. You can see golf street and Barry links all from carnoustie station, there is no car parks and very low passenger usage but keep monifeith open for more rail services.
The branch was closed specifically for Tramlink, wasn't it? Very much a replacement. It certainly doesn't do much to make your point for you.

Isn't Falls of Cruachan also an unlit station?
I think so, as is new clee. Hence why no trains stop there when it is dark.
Wrexham Central....whats the point....100yard walk!
How much does maintaining the station itself cost?
Its basically a lump of concrete and a sign.
Codsall and Bilbrook should be combined (I believe if a Eurostar stopped at Codsall, it's other end would be in Bilbrook).
