At a slight tangent, if the 442s do succeed on the Portsmouth Direct I think it would be good to name each unit after places/people of interest on the Direct, given that apart from a few Bournemouth line workings, they are dedicated. I’m aware there is the separate 442 thread of course.

Have any of the 450/5's been renumbered to 450/0's?

I could have sworn I saw a 450059, or similar yesterday.

Is there any news about the refurbs on the 158s and 159s?
All the 158s and 159s are PRM modified I believe. Some of the 158s have the newer SWT livery and some have the SWR livery, the 159/0s are all in the SWR livery (with a few displaying the striped version with the SWT interior still) and all the 159/1s are still in the newer SWT livery and it doesn't look as if they are in any rush for sending those up to be refurbished into the SWR livery (a bit like 150219 and 238 for GWR which have been PRM for a few years now and still carry the FGW livery both inside and outside)...

Is that all they're doing to them? I thought they were doing interior mods too, similar to the Desiros.

Are they going to replace the old ones or are they in addition to the dot matrix ones?
They should work alongside the old system as per the new screens being fitted to the LNR desiro units

I doubt Siemens will use different screens they are similar trains

Thanks for the update.

Modern Railways reports that the programme will take 3.5 years with one unit per week being released.

yeah, which means if this continues at it's current rate by the time they're all finished, they'll only be a year to go until the end of the franchise, and that's if SWR isn't nationalised or goes bankrupt which is looking possible at this point.

Stagecoach has announced a major new rebrand (livery/colours) for it's bus operations - one wonders how this would have been applied to the rolling stock if SWT had survived!

The rebrand is absolutely dreadful so it's probably just as well we'll never see it applied to trains! It would however be in vogue - predominantly white with splodges of colour here and there.

Going off tangent slightly.......I think the DfT should adopt one livery, like they have in Scotland with just a subtle branding on the side like SWR has "A Firstgroup and MTR company"

So looking at that, they would have stuck to a mixed version of the original SWT livery, with the orange lines as seen on version 2 of the 159/1s.
And if they'd then changed mid-franchise to be in line with the new Stagecoach branding one possibility would be white, with pale blue and yellow ends and green doors.
